P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

P: Gracious God,C: have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you, and given ourselves into the power of sin. We are truly sorry and humbly repent. Turn us again to youand uphold us by your Spirit, so that we may live and serve you in newness of life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: AMEN. Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with a cry of joy.

THE SERMON “A LEAVE-TAKING AND A PROMISE”

(II Kings 2:1,9-18; Acts 1:1-11)

1.See, the Conqu’ror mounts in triumph; see the King in royal state, Riding on the clouds, his chariot, to his heav’nly palace gate!Hark, the choirs of angel voices joyful alleluias sing, And the portals high are lifted to receive their heav’nly King.

3.While he lifts his hands in blessing, he is parted from his friends; While their eager eyes behold him, he upon the clouds ascends. He who walked with God and pleased Him, preaching truth and doom to come, He, our Enoch, is translated to his everlasting home.

4. Now our heav’nly Aaron enters with his blood within the veil; Joshua now is come to Canaan, and the kings before him quail. Now he plants the tribes of Israel in their promised resting place; Now our great Elijah offers double portion of his grace.

Mighty Lord, in thine ascension we by faith behold our own. PROFESSION OF FAITH NICENE CREED We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is

worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the

forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, ( + )

P: We pray for Elizabeth, our Presiding Bishop; for Abraham, Bishop of our Synod; for all Pastors and the congregations committed to their charge.P: Lord in your mercy: C: Hear our prayer.

P: We pray for our nation’s President, and for all the leaders of the nations; for peace and understanding to prevail over war, bloodshed, and strife; for an end to terrorism and sectarian violence; for all who are in harm’s way; for all who work to save the earth from carelessness and destruction.

PRAYER OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNIONP: Lord Jesus, you call to yourself all who labor and are heavy-laden, to refresh them and to give rest to their souls. We earnestly desire to experience your love at the heavenly feast you have prepared for your people on earth. As we are not able on this day to be gathered at your Table, may we receive you into our hearts by faith, trusting the word of your promise, that “those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and will come to them and make our home with them.”Strengthen our faith, increase our love and hope; and after this life grant us a place at your heavenly table, where we shall eat of
