Announcements

Today is Communion Sunday. Please prepare elements for yourself at home. Heather Hartsell, Ed Palmer, Danielle McGill, Paula Salter, and Laurie Palmer will lead worship in the St. Andrew sanctuary today, socially distanced with masks.

Happy Fourth of July weekend to you and yours!

This week:Monday, July 6, Church Office closed in lieu of July 4th holiday

Tuesday, July 7, Prayer Ministry at 7:00 PM: All are welcome

Wednesday, July 8, Bible Study at 11:00 AM; John 8: All are welcome

When I lived in Richardson, TX (sits right on top of Dallas) a Greek restaurant opened there, and became a favorite. The owner was from Greece, and his enthusiastic announcement to anyone who walked in was, “Welcome! Welcome!” We felt his hospitality and enjoyed his beautiful meals. You are welcomed, too, to Prayer Ministry and Bible study this week. Are you in need of some meaningful conversation during this season? We’ve had good discussions in Bible Study and in the Prayer Ministry. Welcome, welcome! And come. We’d love to see you. Heather reminded us of this verse last week: “When you welcome Me, you welcome the One who sent Me.” MT 10:40b

Beth-El Farmworker MinistriesThank you to all who participated in the Children’s Art Auction last Sunday. We raised $1615 for the Beth El Farmworker Ministry Food Pantry. Not only did we do a good thing, it was fun too! We loved hearing the children describe their art to us. Stacey has written an article for our presbytery’s newsletter to tell the story. (If you have not yet subscribed, it’s a helpful resource, especially these days. www.presbyteryoftampabay.com: press on icon on the top right of the page: “Presbytery enews, sign up now.”)

We are hearing three music requests today. If there’s a hymn/song/video you’d like to hear in worship, please send it to me. If you don’t have a video, we’ll find one. (All three requests for today’s worship came with videos).Hank Belusa requested, “So Will I”; Catherine Reed, “Healer of My Heart”; and Ron Walker, “Be Thou My Vision.” Thank you for sending these along for us.

We Worship God

We Light the Christ Candle

Opening Song “So Will I”

Opening Prayer Rev. Dr. Heather HartsellGracious God, we are here to worship You. We’ve learned over these last few months how precious our worship space is, and how much we miss being together here. We grieve that. At the same time, we remember that You are not confined here. We are grateful for Your presence wherever we are and no matter how far apart we are from each other. May our worship praise You. We pray in Christ’s name, who alone is our Savior. Amen.

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

We Prepare to Hear the Word of God

Call to Confession Rev. Dr. Heather HartsellConfession of SinHoly God, You yearn for us to lay our burden upon You, to place our anxiety upon You because You care for us. We confess that we hold on tightly to our worries and anxieties as if that helps us deal with them. “I can do this myself,” we say just like little children. Forgive us. Let us release our strong grip on things that do not benefit us at all. Let us release them into Your hand, and let us rest in Your mighty palm. The promise of Your grace is this: You free us. Hear our prayers, O Lord.

~silence for private confession~Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Price of Peace: thank You for Your love. May we learn to get out of Your way to be the people You created us to be. We pray in Christ’s name. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving and for Illumination of Scripture Rev. Laurie Palmer

The Word of GodGospel Lesson Matthew 11:16-19, 25-3016“But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to one another, 17‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not mourn.’ 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon’; 19the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.” 25At that time Jesus said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; 26yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. 28“Come to Me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God!

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
