Learning Objectives - Uses some clearly identifiable letters to communicate meaning, representing some sounds correctly and in sequence.- Writes own name and other things such as labels, captions. - Attempts to write short sentences in meaningful contexts. - To read and understand simple sentences. - To use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately and read some common irregular words.

St David’s Day

It is a special day for anyone who is Welsh because David is the patron (or special) saint for Wales.St David's day is on 1st of March each year.People in Wales and those of Welsh origin celebrate the life of their patron saint, Saint David on this day.

Who is Saint David?

Saint David was a Celtic monk, abbot and bishop who died in AD 589. His mother was Saint Non and his father was Sant, King of Ceredigion.

He spread the word of Christianity throughout Wales.

It is believed that he went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, where he was made an archbishop.

Saint David was famous for the miracles he performed. One day, he caused the ground to rise beneath him so everyone could see and hear him.

How is Saint David's Day celebrated?St David’s Day is commemorated by the wearing of daffodils or leeks. On St David’s Day, some children wear the national dress of Wales.This consists of a tall black hat, white frilled cap and a long dress.

Many villages and towns in Wales arrange St David's Parades on the 1st of March.

One of the biggest events is the St David's Day parade which makes it way right across Cardiff city centre.

there are colourful street dances and school children and youth groups dressed in Welsh traditional costume and Welsh traditional music.

Some Welsh school children perform in concerts and sing in choirs.

They make soup called Cawl (a soup made from leeks) as well as Welsh cakes and bara brith.

Let's be creative and make our own daffodil picture.All you need is yellow paint and a fork.Remember to take a picture to show your teachers.

Fine Motor Monday- Choose one of these activities to complete. Physical Development: Moving and Handling Make your own playdough. Please see below for the recipe. Scissor control-Practise cutting and holding the scissors safely and correctly. Practise cutting on different lines.

Microsoft teams activity- 2:30pm everyday Log into your Microsoft teams account- an email will be sent with a link for the scheduled meeting. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this will happen at 2:30pm. The short activity will involve story time, singing nursery rhymes or completing an activity altogether as a class.

NO-COOK PLAY DOUGH RECIPEYou need:

2 cups plain flour (all purpose) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil    (baby oil and coconut

oil work too) 1/2 cup salt 2 tablespoons cream of tartar 1 to 1.5 cups boiling water (adding in increments until it

feels just right) gel food colouring  (optional) few drops glycerine (my secret ingredient for stretch and

shine!)

Method:

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl

Add food colouring TO the boiling water then into the dry ingredients

Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough

Add the glycerine (optional) Allow it to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a

couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone. * This is the most important part of the process, so keep at it until it’s the perfect consistency!

If it remains a little sticky then add a touch more flour until just right.
