Today’s world started to try block http and https pro-tocols for some reasons about state laws, culture and religion. By 2010 there are so many resistance and revolution attempts around the world while people

-were trying to reach their goals about their protests Tor was protecting their connection via internet. We will look deeper in this topic how Tor this and what/who is behind it. Some interesting information and fi-nally the installation and using it of course will be the touched points about these systems. Tricks and tips, useful sources also will take place. The user number of Tor became 600.000 by 2012 this is the latest nu-meric information about it. In England it has 16.000 single user per day. Q: OK, BUT WHAT IS TOR ?

A: Tor is a software actually which can encrypt your data and id while you are surfing on web, sending mails, sharing files etc. It encrypt all data that going out from your computer. Whit this feature even you log in your social accounts your id can not be traced or hacked.

Q: WHAT DOES TOR STAND FOR? WHERE ?

A: TOR stands for The Onion Router. Most websites you visit on the Darknet will no doubt end in the extension “.onion”. The name of onion comes from the real onion. The structure of it. It keeps the center core behind the other layers.

Q: WHEN DARKNET START ?

A: It is started roughly 2004 it was the date of the hidden websites started to appear.

Q: WHAT WAS THE ORIGINAL INTENTION OF THE TOR NET-WORK ?

A: Ironically it was used for anon-ymous communications within the Military, to keep encrypt secrets.

Q: WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE TOR AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC?

A: Sometime in 2004 the TOR net-work was released as open-source freeware to the public, as far as we know people continued to devel-op the program and “boom” the Darknet was born.

Q: WHY IS TOR SO SLOW?

A: When you search in the TOR Network, the information going out of your computer is being sent through several volunteer comput-ers around the globe, to keep the original location the information was sent from – And the place it’s going to – anonymous.

Q: IS TOR AND THE DARKNET / DEEP WEB SAFE?

A: The Internet you use every day (YouTube, Facebook, Goog-le, Email) is full of sites that can infect your computer – As long as you don’t click anything silly you should be fine. Make sure you have a good Anti-Virus and read the documentation on the TOR site to keep yourself safe and as anony-mous as you can get.

Page 4: WEB 101 Zine 1th Issue

Q: I AM USING WINDOWSALL I NEED TO DO IS INSTALL TOR OR WHAT ?

A: Windows itself has a lot of se-curity holes. The TOR Browser will protect you to an extent, however, if someone wants to find out what you’re doing then they might be able to exploit a security hole the TOR Browser may leak the infor-mation you’re currently requesting from the Darknet.

Q: HOW TO STAY AS ANONY-MOUS AS POSSIBLE?A: Open source operating systems like Linux based Ubuntu and a good firewall is good enough for starting to become anonymous. For a better security you can choose the option in Tor “delete cache and history after close”.

Q: WHY DOESN’T A GOVERN-MENT JUST ‘SHUT DOWN’ THE DARKNET?

A: The Darknet and the Internet are synonymous. The Darknet (commonly called the “Deep Web”) is simply a deeper and hard-er to access part of the Internet. It’s impossible to police the entire internet because people are always developing new ways of staying off the grid, the authorities will always battle with the Darknet and the Internet.

Q: IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE COM-PLETELY ANONYMOUS ?

A: No, however, if you do some research and gets programs to keep you as anonymous as pos-sible it’ll be almost impossible to track where you are and what...

...you’re looking at online, but there is always that 0.1% chance that a weakness will be found and your anonymity vanishes. Like I said, as long as you read up on anonymity and use the right pro-grams, you should be fine.

Q: HOW MANY SITES ARE DOWN THERE?

A: There are numbers like 200,000 and 400,000, People guessing it’ll be in between those numbers. Due to the hidden nature of these web-site though, it’s extremely hard to even find a fraction of them.
