We’re growing a powerfulmovement of change.
One practice at a time.
6th Annual International Summit onRedesigning the Clinical Office Practice
March 30 - April 1, 2005 Washington, DC, USA
Six years ago a few hundred pioneers cametogether to plant seeds of change.
Their purpose: Improve the delivery of patient care in clinical-officepractices and outpatient settings.
And so they became leaders of change. Recruiting others. Spreadingnew ideas. Promoting highly effective programs and practices basedon this unshakeable premise:
Give patients the care they want and need exactly when they want and need it.
Join the movement at the 6th Annual International Summit on
Redesigning the Clinical-Office Practice.
Today those early seeds have blossomed into an innovative and influential movement thatcontinues to spread and grow around the world. From private clinics in Washington state to hospitals in the United Kingdom, appointment access has improved, patient waiting times have dropped significantly, patients with chronic conditions are getting better care, and more.
At the same time, our annual Summit has become a powerful force for change that crossesinternational boundaries and represents the best thinking of world-renowned experts. It’salso a clearinghouse for new ideas and practices designed to expand the movement as wellas accelerate the momentum of improving clinical care linked to these areas:
• Better clinical outcomes • Higher patient and staff satisfaction• Lower costs • Improved efficiency
If you’re new to this movement, welcome. You’re vital to our success. We’ve tailorednumerous course offerings to your interests and needs. You’ll find it’s easy to get up to speedon how to bring significant, meaningful and lasting change to your organization.
If you’ve been here before, you’ll be able to choose from many substantive new courseofferings as well as build on the progress you’ve already achieved.
No matter your level of experience with the Summit, we promise you this: You’ll leavefeeling fired up, inspired to lead and filled with practical, achievable ideas to begin orfurther the process of change, and to improve performance where you work.
So join us in making a difference. Go to www.ihi.org to register today!
Options and Opportunities in an Epidemic of Diabetes
Andrew Morris, MD, Professor of Diabetic Medicine, University of Dundee, Scotland, UK
Thursday, March 31, 2005 8:00 am – 9:00 am
Urbanization, increasing obesity, and lack of exercise are all contributingto a global increase in diabetes. Accompanying this will be a rise in thecomplications of heart disease, blindness, strokes, and kidney failure. This plenary session will demonstrate diabetes to be an exemplar ofchronic-disease management, which with concerted effort andcollaboration among the individual, healthcare system and society, canimprove outcomes for patients. The Diabetes Audit and ResearchSystem (DARTS) in Tayside, Scotland will be demonstrated with adetailed description of how this is supporting National Diabetes Care.
Information Technology or Practice Transformation — Which Comes First? Answer: Both!
Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, Medical Director, Healthcare Informationand Management Systems Society (HIMSS)
Friday, April 1, 20058:00 am – 9:00 am
Often called one of the pioneers of the electronic medical record, Dr. Leavitt will take on some provocative questions: Can there bemeaningful practice transformation without IT? Can electronic medicalrecords be successfully implemented without major practice redesign? And what additional benefits might be achieved when these twodisciplines work synergistically?
