The Thirty-Third Sunday In Ordinary Time | November 18,2018 (Con nued on page 3)

WEEKLY MASS INTETIONS

It is my joy to express my sincere apprecia on and thanks to the PSR kids for doing excellent service at Mass last Sunday, November the 11th. They do bring a lot of life into the liturgy. Congratula ons to one and all. Many thanks to Melissa for ge ng them organized to do a wonderful service.

I wish to acknowledge all those who lent their helping hands in mov-ing things from the Church to the Catholic Centre last Sunday a er Mas. It was a wonderful team of volunteers with men, women and children joining in to carry out the en re move pre y well. I thank them all immensely.

On Thanksgiving Day, when you all come to Mass, I would like to re-quest you to bring food items to be offered and therea er be given out to the food pantry as expression of our support to the poor.

I wish you all a happy thanksgiving on November 22nd. May the Lord help us to be grateful for the numerous blessings that we receive eve-ry day? On this occasion, I would like to share what I shared last year at the Prayer Service organized by Eldon Ministerial Alliance.

The word thanksgiving is split up as thanks - giving. It means acknowl-edging gratefully every circumstance as blessings from above. I talked about three models of thanks – giving as given below.

Jesus’ way

At the last supper before he was going to be handed over, he took bread and gave thanks to the Father saying‘’ this is my body which will be given up for you’. Then he took the cup again gave thanks to the Father and gave it to his disciples saying ‘take this all of you and drink from it ,for this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and ever-las ng covenant that will be poured out for you and do this in memory of me. [Mathew 26, 26 – 28.] It is the sacrament of total giv-ing climaxed on the cross. Consequently, He has become the spiritual food and drink of His people.

ANNOUNCEMENTS&ACTIVITIES

Pauline way:

Considering all circumstances as blessings of God, he writes to the first Thessa-lonians in chapter 8, 18 and says ‘be thankful in all circumstances’. He consid-ers all circumstances both the pleasant and unpleasant as blessings and so be thankful for them. Truly and really, unpleasant circumstances are blessings in disguise.

The pilgrim’s way:

1. When the Pilgrims did the first ‘thanksgiving in 1602 half of the group had died. Out of 102 only 50 survived due to severe winter and insufficient food. However, with a grateful heart, they shared what they had with the new group that arrived then.

Considering the above three models, what is my way of thanks – giving in my day to day life?

from the Pastor Cont.

"Lord, we thank you for the goodness of our people and for the spirit of jus ce that fills this na on. We thank you for the beauty and fullness of the land and the challenge of the ci es. We thank you for our work and our rest, for one another, and for our homes. We thank you, Lord: accept our thanksgiving on this day. We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

(The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops published this prayer for Catholic families to use to capture the true heart of a day of thanksgiving.)
