At a recent assembly two groups of special students were congratulated by Principal Glen Sawle. The 2015 school leaders Willis Thompson, Eliza Colby, Cameron Lindsay, Reilly Bromfield and Stepha-nie Hallam were presented with certificates after completing a leadership course. Congratulations to go to Jundamarra Layton and Bradley Farquhar who were both recipients of 2014 Aboriginal Education Awards on. Jundamarra was recognized for his outstanding achievement in sport while Bradley received the Secondary Student Participation Award.
Like ANZAC Day, the Remembrance Day
ceremony provides an opportunity to
remember all service men and women,
past and present and their contributions to
world peace.
Many former students of Wauchope High
have been part of the armed forces for
Australia and our students continue to
enter the armed forces as a career path
choice.
Welcome to the next P & C Meeting : 18th November , usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month Common Room 7pm.
From the Principal…
On Thursday Night students, parents, friends and staff gathered to formally celebrate the achievements of our Year 12 Graduating Class of 2014. The Year 12 formal held at the Wauchope RSL provided the perfect opportunity for us to see what fine young men and women these students had developed into. While we celebrate the end of 13 years of formal schooling for this group of young adults we acknowledge that this is just the first step on a much larger and longer journey. On behalf of the entire school community I wish them well in their future endeavours and encourage them to aim high and never give up – our future is in their hands. I would also like to thank all staff that helped ensure the event was a great success, but especially Ms Quee and Mr Houlahan and a special thank you to Mrs Angela Rumbel who gave a very honest, heartfelt and entertaining parent reply.
Congratulations to go to Jundamarra Layton and Bradley Farquhar who were both recipients of 2014 Aboriginal Education Awards on Thursday 6 November. Jundamarra was recognized for his outstanding achievement in sport while Bradley received the Secondary Student Participation Award. Well done boys.
As part of the school’s community involvement our school captains presented a very solemn Remembrance Day address at the Wauchope Cenotaph on Tuesday morning. Eliza Colby and Willis Thompson presented those gathered with some very sobering facts about the numbers of young volunteers that have made the ultimate sacrifice in overseas conflicts in the name of their country. Our vice captains Reilly Bromfield and Cameron Lindsay led the Remembrance Day commemorations held at school. Thank you to all of these students for their involvement.
Today a number of prospective and current Year 7 students undertook the 2015 Stage 4 Gifted and Talented Class entrance test held at the school. I am sure there will be some anxious students and parents awaiting the results in the coming weeks. The school is excited about this initiative as it will enable us to broaden and strengthen our support for students across the full range of abilities and needs within the school.
Could I also ask you to again remind your child that, as part of our school rules, they are not permitted to bring aerosol deodorants with them to school. Wauchope High School is a proud Asthma friendly environment.
As the school year races towards it close for students on 17 December I like to remind you of the importance messages I have been giving in relation to attendance. It is my expectation that all students are at school every day and in every lesson. Every time a child is allowed to have the day off or is allowed to leave early without a very real reason we actually disadvantage them in terms of their success in their learning. Our aim for every student must be 100% attendance if they are to achieve their true and full potential. I thank you for your support in achieving this aim for your child.
Glen Sawle
Principal
Welcome to the next P & C Meeting : 18th November , usually the 3rd Tuesday of the month Common Room 7pm.
On Friday October 31 injured Wallaby Captain Stephen
Moore visited Wauchope High School to promote the new
Wauchope rugby club which will be known as “The
Wauchope Thunder”. Stephen was accompanied by the
President of the club Peter Daley and coach Marc Minor.
Graham Sonter from the Australian Rugby Union ran a
training session for the U16’s boys and girls teams.
Graham was ably assisted by Stephen Moore who shared
his vast knowledge.
Stephen has played 95 test matches for Australia so he
knows what he is talking about. Stephen was very
impressed with our students. Graham was also assisted
by Marc Minor and Alisi Wilson who is an ex Wauchope
Public student now playing rugby in the ACT.
Wallaby Captain Stephen Moore visits Wauchope High
It is hoped that the Wauchope Thunder will have a girls’ team next year and they are looking for junior male players in all age
groups. Mr Adrian Palmer will be facilitating junior rugby for the Thunder. If you have any questions about your child playing
rugby in 2015 please contact him at school.
Rugby is a world-wide game which will be played at the 2016 Rio Olympics. There is no reason why we will not see some WHS
students on the world stage in the years to come. We have a lot of talented young rugby players.
Thanks Mr
Taylor and
Mr Palmer!
