Living the good news of Jesus Christwith open minds and loving hearts

May 13, 2018 Seventh Sunday of Easter

The Passing of the Peace is one of the

most ancient worship responses. Having

received Christ’s peace, we pass it on.

You can find today’s scripture reading on page 111 of the

New Testament in your pew Bible.

Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) was a French

organist and composer. Today’s anthem is a

selection from his larger Requiem, known for its

serenity and soothing gentleness. It begins

with harp and strings, and then builds to a

triumphant Hosanna.

The Sermon is a message based on

scripture that proclaims the good news of

Jesus Christ and helps to strengthen faith

within the gathered community.

University Christian Church is a warm community that

welcomes everyone to the table. If you

proclaim Jesus as the Christ and would like to partner with us on your journey of faith,

we invite you to come forward during the

Hymn of Discipleship or speak to a minister

after worship.

The Peace One: The peace of the Lord be with you. All: And also with you.

*(11:00am) Hymn 572, stanzas 1 & 3 | Take Time to Be Holy Hymn Tune: HOLINESS

11:00am worship, 1st-3rd graders are invited to join a Worship and Wonder leader in the Gallery. Children will return to the Sanctuary during the Hymn of Discipleship.

Welcome to University Christian Church, we’re glad you’re here! The information in these

margins will help guide you through worship. If

you have any questions, please ask a greeter,

usher or minister.

Red text is read by the congregation.

Asterisks (*) indicate times when you are

invited to stand. Feel free to remain seated if need be.

Gloria Patri (Latin for “Glory be to the Father”)

is an ancient prayer of praise. Early Christians usually referred to God

in masculine terms. You might sing “Mother”

or “Creator” instead of “Father,” depending on

how you think about God.

Baby Dedications are an opportunity for parents

to publicly proclaim their intent to raise their children in the Christian faith. The congregation

also participates, affirming that as a

church family they will encourage and support

the parents and their children on the

journey of faith.

The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. It asks God to help us be generous, thankful, and humble. We say this prayer together each week at the end of the Pastoral Prayer.

You are welcome to give through the “ShelbyNext Giving” app, online or via text to 817-241-2780. Simply text the amount you want to give and follow the prompts.

Doxology is Greek for “words of glory.” We use this ancient form of praise to thank God as the offering is brought forward with the bread and juice for the Lord’s Supper.

The Lord’s Supper (also called communion) is a celebration of Christ’s love for the world. We share this meal each week and everyone is welcome to participate. Our communion bread is free of gluten, wheat, dairy, yeast, eggs, soy, nuts, and corn.
