The City of Selkirk operates a Waste Transfer Station. The following classes of waste maybe disposed of: construction/demolition waste, excavation waste, bulky waste, metallicwaste, used tires, solid waste, compost and recyclables. A tipping fee schedule is in effectwith the exception of recyclables, compost and metallic waste. All loads on trucks ortrailers should be covered.

Program Highlights
The City of Selkirk, in conjunction with the Manitoba Association for Resource RecoveryCorporation, operates an EcoCentre for the purpose of collecting used oil, oil filters,used oil containers and antifreeze.
Collect used oil from your vehicle, lawnmower or other machinery and place it in itsoriginal container. Do not contaminate with other liquids.
Return your used oil products to the City of Selkirk EcoCentre located at the WasteTransfer Station.

Christmas Tree Pick-UpThe City conducts a Christmas tree pick-up for one week following Ukrainian Christmasin January. The time is advertised in the local newspaper.
Christmas trees are picked up on your regular solid waste day. Place your treeat curbside by 8:00 a.m. There will also be a designated site for drop-off that will beassigned at that time.

TREES AND BRANCHES MUST BE BUNDLED INTO 3 FOOT LENGTHS WEIGHING LESS THAN 50 LBS.
Any refuse or tree branches placed at curbside after your collection day will be pickedup by the City of Selkirk but the homeowner will be charged for pick up.

Responsible Electronic Recycling (RER)Most types of e-waste can now be recycled by dropping off electronics and electrical itemsat 511 Robinson Avenue in Selkirk (Selkirk Learning Centre).The following is accepted:
• Computers, laptops and computer accessories • Fax machines and printers• Typewriters, tape players, CDs and DVDs • Telephones, answering machines• Cell phones, chargers and batteries • Televisions, Remote controls• Game decks (Play Station, X-box, etc.) • Mobile radios and RFS phones• Televisions installed in cabinets • Microwaves• Radios and stereos installed in cabinets • Small AppliancesNow Accepted:• Refrigeration appliances such as fridges, freezers, water coolers, air conditioners anddehumidifier with a decommissioning fee of $20.00 per item.

Two (2) Can/BagLimit
Residential premises willbe allowed not more thantwo (2) cans/bags ofsolid waste per residence.
The maximum dimensionsof a standard garbage canare 50 cm by 82 cm(20" x 32" - 124 litres).
The maximum dimensionsof a plastic bag are 89 cmby 127 cm (35" x 50").
Garbage cans and plasticbags should not exceed22 kg (50 lbs) in weight.
Extra Quantity
Excess cans/bags of waste(over the limit of 2) may beput out for collection if asurcharge sticker has beenapplied. The third andadditional can/bag of wastewithout a sticker will not becollected.
A surcharge sticker for overthe limit of 2 cans/bags willbe available for $1.00 atCanada Safeway Ltd.,Marketplace at Selkirk,Extra Foods and the PublicWorks and Civic offices.Stickers should be applied tothe garbage inside anyexcess cans or on theoutside of excess bags.
Recycling
Rechargeable Batteries RecyclingAll portable rechargeable batteries, including Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride(Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li Ion) and certain Small Sealed Lead (Pb) rechargeable batteries areeligible for recycling.

Extra Blue Boxes maybe purchased at localhardware or departmentstores.
Solid Waste Collection
Beginning March 1, 2013, ResponsibleElectronics Recycling (RER) was approvedas a Household Hazardous Waste CollectionDepot and will accept residential hazardouswaste such as paints, fluorescent lights,household cleaners, pesticides, and aerosolcans during normal business hours.
Hazardous waste must be in its originalcontainer or it may be refused.• For more information call RER at(204) 482-2111.

Solid Waste Collection AreasThe City of Selkirk encourages residents to undertakebackyard composting. Compost Bins are available forcost from the Operations Department. Information kits on"How to Compost" are available and City staff will beavailable to assist residents in starting upbackyard composting. Residents can also call theCompost Info-Line at 1-866-394-8880. The City alsooperates a composting facility at the Waste TransferStation.
