MEMORY CAFÉ, Thursday, September 2nd, 1:00—2:30 p.m. Are you or a loved one living with memory loss? Come join the Memory Café and meet new friends. It’s a gathering for anyone with cognitive impairment or de-mentia and their care partners. Open and free to the public.

“DOWNTON ABBEY” MOVIE PRESENTATION, Thursday, September 16th, 1:00 p.m. The Crawley family pre-pares for an official royal visit to their family house in Yorkshire in 1927. They experience physical, social and psychological upheavals as King George V, Queen Mary, and their entourage descend on the eponymous man-sion. Refreshments to follow. Sign up with Betty.

FALL PREVENTION WITH KYRA, Friday, September 17th, 9:30 a.m. Join Kyra for a discussion on fall prevention, how to prevent falls, how to get up from a fall and exercises that will improve your balance, strength and flexi-bility to decrease the risk of falling.

HOT TOPICS IN MEDICINE, Friday, September 17th, 10:00 a.m. The URI students are back and ready to have a timely discussion of what is in the news about a specific disease or medication. Just because it is on Dr. Oz and everyone is talking about it, are you getting the correct information. Sponsored by the URI Pharmacy Outreach Program.

FUTURE EVENTS

MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT, October 15th—December 7th. Time to reevaluate your health and prescrip-tion plans and make changes for 2022. Appointments with a qualified senior health insurance counselor will be available. More information to follow.

ANNUAL FLU CLINIC will be held in mid-October. Confirmed date will appear in October’s newsletter.

Evidently, there was more to the “Seenager” story. Here it is in its entirety. Enjoy!!

“Seenager”

I JUST discovered my age group! I am a Seenager (senior teenager). I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 55-60 years later. I don’t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don’t have a curfew. I have a driver’s license and my own car.

I have ID that gets me into bars and the wine store. I like the wine store best. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant; they aren’t scared of anything. They have been blessed to live this long, why be scared? And I don’t have acne. Life is Good!

Also, you will feel much more intelligent after reading this if you are a “Seenager.” Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age; it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear. Also, older people often go to anoth-er room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem; it is na-ture’s way of making older people do more exercise! So there!
