Min er als ob served: an de sine-bytownite, ap a tite, augite, bi -o tite, bornite, bravoite, cal cite, chalcocite, chal co py rite,clinochlore, cummingtonite, di op side, en sta tite, fluroapatite,for ster ite, ga lena, gar net, graph ite, he ma tite, hercynite,hornblende, il men ite, mackinawite, mag ne tite, marcasite, mo -lyb de nite, niggliite, ol iv ine, pentlandite, py rite, pyrrhotite,quartz, rutile, sperrylite, sphalerite, spinel, valleriite (list mod i -fied from Rainville and Park, 1976).

Com ments: This is one of the few places in south ern Mainewhere large masses of pyrrhotite and chal co py rite can readily be

found. Much of this sul fide ore is some what weath ered andcrum bly, but good spec i mens can be trimmed out. Many of themin er als listed above oc cur in very small quan ti ties and may beob serv able only with the aid of a microscope.

Di rec tions: Driv ing: From jct. of Rtes. 17 and 131-south (east of Un ion vil lage), drive south 2.60 miles on Rte. 131, cross ingthe War ren town line at 2.30 miles. Turn left onto woods road(note large boul der to right of road en trance, and stone wall toleft). Park here.

Walk ing: Walk east on woods road un til reach ing the pros pectpit (about 0.10 mile). Note rusty pile of ore min er als in the pitarea.
