What is a vertex?

Vertices is the plural form of vertex.

What is a reflection over an axis?

What is Perimeter?

• Perimeter is the space around a shape. If you were to think about a yard that is fenced in, the fence shows the perimeter of that yard. How far do you walk around the yard in total? That is perimeter.

Page 9: Warm-Up If a rectangle has vertices (-3, 2), (5, 2), (-3, -2), (5, -2), what is the area of that rectangle? What is the rectangle’s perimeter?

What is Area?

• Area is the total amount of space contained in one shape. Back to the yard, if you were to walk up and down the entire yard, that would be the area of the yard. Or you can think if you were to cut the grass of the yard, the lawnmower covers the entire area of the yard.

Homework

• Draw a square and show that it can be 2 triangles.

Warm-Up

Your coach tells you to run laps around the rectangular soccer field. You end up running a total of 120 yards. The soccer field is 20 yards long. What is the width of the field? If your coach wanted you to cut the grass of the field, how many yards would you cut?
