The project is on approximately 300ha of farm land used for cropping and grazing. The site has excellent exposure to Australia’s abundant solar resources, making it an ideal location for a renewable energy project. Environmental impact assessments have been commissioned with expert consultants who are carefully assessing the impact of the solar farm. These studies include surface water, landscape and visual impact, transport, ecology (flora and fauna), economic benefits, glint and glare. PROJECT TIMING The project is in the assessment, design and consultation phase with environmental impact surveys ongoing. COMMUNITY BENEFITS

Many local businesses will benefit from the construction of Baringhup Solar Farm.

During the construction phase of 12 months, the project will support approximately 130 direct positions. Once operational, 3 jobs will be supported by the facility.

Financial benefits to Council through council rate revenue are likely to be significant over the project life cycle.

THE ENVIRONMENT

The project has the capacity to supply sufficient clean energy to power approximately 44,000 homes and to reduce CO2 emissions by 170,000 tonnes per year.

The homes equivalent has been calculated using the predicted annual electricity generation of the site (based on Bureau of Meteorology data) measured and dividing this by a conservative annual average electricity consumption figure of 3865kWh for homes in Victoria (derived from data available from The Australian Energy Market Commission 2017 Residential Electricity Price Trends Report, December 2017).
