A Note From the Principal...
Walter Douglas Elementary School is focused on academic excellence! You can feel the energy here on campus as staff and students concentrate on accomplishing our learning goals for the final quarter of the year. Remember that research shows students who complete homework on a regular basis increase their confidence and do better in school. Education is a partnership between you, your child, and the school. CLASS ASSIGNMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR: We will be making classroom assignments for the next school year in May. Parents are
encouraged to discuss this placement with their child’s current teacher prior to April 29th. Please do not name specific teachers. Rather, list the
characteristics of the teacher you believe will best meet the needs of your child. We will not make decisions based on teacher popularity, who
siblings had in previous years, and no promises will be made to you during these parent-teacher discussions. Our goal is to create classes that
accurately represent the total school population. No changes will be made once lists are created. Forms are available in the front office and you
must complete this request form in order to have your request considered. No requests will be considered after May 2nd.
KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP: If you have a kindergartener for the 2016-2017 school year at home, please come by and start the process
for registering next year. It is very important that we know how many kindergarteners we will have for next year so we can make sure we
have the right amount of teachers to staff classes. We have been registering kindergarteners since March 7th. Stop by and get your kindergar-
tener on the list!
We at Walter Douglas know that it takes parents and teachers, home and school, working together to help our students succeed. We thank
you for your efforts and we take pride in our student’s accomplishments. Please continue to encourage your child to do their very best.
Sincerely,
Tamára McAllister

kínder en la lista!.

P.A.W.S. Corner with Mr. Nogami Dear Bulldog Families,
Our students are off to a great start in the 4th quarter! Ms. McAllister and I get to hear about all of the wonderful
things students are doing when we read PAWSitive referrals on the morning announcements. What a great way to
start the day!
With the start of the 4th quarter we are also “rolling” out a new school-wide incentive the students can earn
by having 7 days without office referrals. And, they’ve already earned 3 days! When you talk to your
child, please be sure to ask if he or she followed PAWS. PAWS stands for: Promptly prepared, Act
respectfully, Work hard, and Stay safe.
Queridas Familias Bulldog,
Respectfully (Actuar respetuosamente), Work hard (Trabajar muy duro) y Stay safe (Mantenerse seguro).

We would like to thank all parents that have been calling the front office before 1:30 pm to make dis-missal changes and coming in the office to sign your

Queremos agradecer a los padres que llaman antes de la 1:30 pm para hacer cambios a la
salida de su hijo/a y también a los que entran dentro de la oficina para firmar si su hijo/a llega tarde. Le
agradecemos su apoyo.
If you will be picking up your student earlier, you may
send a note to his/her teacher to let them know.
Please Note: We will not call students out of their class-
room until a parent or responsible adult is at the front
office. Unfortunately, we’ve had situations in the past
where students were left waiting, resulting in the loss of
valuable learning time.
Happy April! On April 11th we will begin testing for fourth
quarter progress reports. Please make sure you are reviewing
skills that your child had difficulty with on the third quarter
test. Your students will also be taking their post test for math
this month. Please make sure your child is here at school on time and that they
eat breakfast before school starts. Thank you for all of your help and support!
Mrs. Johns Mrs. Roszko Ms. Reynolds Mrs. Yang
April is an exciting month for first graders. We have begun working on our Animal Research Projects.
You should have received a note about this in your child’s homework folder. We will be sending home a
poster board with your child on Thursday, March 31st. If at all possible, please pick your child up that day
so that they do not have to take it on the bus. You will receive a note giving students instructions on what
they need to do with the poster board. Please feel free to help your child with this project. All projects
will be set up in the MPR on April 20th for parents and students to view. Information about the time of this
event will be coming home soon. Thanks in advance for your help with this exciting project!
The countdown has begun for the final DIBELS test of the year. Please be sure your child is reading for
20 minutes each day, including weekends. The more they read, the better they will become at reading.
Ms. Jacobson Mrs. Brewer Mrs. Wright Ms. Porter
Happy Spring Walter Douglas Families!
The end of the year is approaching so keep an eye out for the end of year festivities and
DIBELS testing! Your child will be DIBELS tested on their reading skills during the first
week of May. It is very important that you keep practicing fluency passages, reading books,
and having your child retell the story after they have read it. These skills will help your child to become a successful
reader. Thank you for all of the classroom donations! If you would like to donate any snacks or tissues your child’s
teacher would greatly appreciate it!
Ms. Weigold Mrs. Provencio Mrs. Vanderkolk Mr. Brown
Hello Parents! The third grade team would first like to thank all of the
parents who came to meet with us during Parent Teacher Conferences. We
know working together, both parents and teachers, is a vital component to the
success of our students and we appreciate you taking the time to sit down and
discuss your child’s progress. Thank you as well for the snack donations for our AzMERIT testing week!
They made all the difference in keeping our students focused and motivated to complete their test! Finally,
if your child is missing a jacket, have them check the lost and found! It is overflowing with clothing.
We look forward to finishing up the school year strong during fourth quarter. Continue to have your
child read at home at least 20 minutes each night and practice their math facts! Thank you for all you do!
