P.A.W.S. Corner with Ms. Adams

We have had a wonderful first semester here at Douglas and I can’t believe it’s already December! Our students are working hard to demonstrate P.A.W.S. throughout our campus. This quarter we are working hard to reach our goal of 8 days without any negative office referrals for our first ever pep assembly! Please continue to encourage your student(s) to arrive to school on time and do their personal best. Continue asking your students questions about how they showed P.A.W.S. during the day and asking questions such as, “Did you earn another day?” and “What did you do today to show P.A.W.S.?” We appreciate all that you do to support our students! Have a great Holiday Season!

Happy December! There is a lot happening this month. We will be giving the 2nd quarter test so make sure you look at your child’s midterm test to see what they need to practice. DIBELS testing will take place the week of December 2nd-6th. Continue having your child practice naming letters, breaking words apart by sounds (i.e. ‘pig’ à /p/ /i/ /g/), and reading CVC words. Along with testing, we will be having many holiday activities at school. Continue to check your child’s homework folder for holiday activity updates and reminders. Kindergarten pajama day will be Thursday,

December 19th. We might be asking for donations soon for things we will need for holiday activities. We are excited for the busy month ahead!

First grade will be having a holiday celebration on Thursday, December 19th. Students are allowed to wear school appropriate pajamas this day, but no slippers. Please make sure to check your child’s homework folder for notes that will be sent home with items needed for all of our holiday activities. We appreciate anything that you are able to donate. Also, since the weather is cooling down, please write your child’s name inside their jacket in case it is misplaced. Many students are still having trouble tying their shoes. Please practice this at home because it becomes a safety issue. It is also important for students to learn their phone number as well as parents’ names. This is something that can be practiced at home as

well and is beneficial if they are ever in an emergency. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and a relaxing and safe winter break!! Don’t forget to READ and we will see you January 6th! Miss Jacobson Mrs. Turner/Ms. Trott Mrs. Vergara Mrs. Provencio 696-8312 696-8331 696-8313 696-8320

Happy December! Cold season is here! Please make sure your child has a jacket for the chilly mornings. We are also in need of boxes of tissues and hand sanitizer for our classrooms! We are continuing with our Parent Involvement Homework. Please make sure that you are completing the fluency passage with your child every night. This is important because it will help to improve your child’s DIBELS score. The DIBELS reading test will be December 2-6. Problem of the Month math homework will be handed out on the first week of the month. It is due on the Friday of that week. Please make sure you and your child discuss and show multiple ways to solve the math problem.

Thank you for devoting time to support your child’s education. Lastly, we have many fun and festive activities coming up this month. Please make sure your child is coming to school on time,

with all of their homework completed, and he/she is on their best behavior so that they can participate in the fun festivities.

The 2nd grade team wishes your family a happy and safe holiday season! Mrs. Solis Mr. Brown Ms. Myrick 696-8355 696-8315 696-8321

Hello Families! As we head into this busy holiday season, we would like to thank you for continuing to encourage your child to stay focused in school each day! The more on task and engaged your student is each day, the more they are learning! In addition, being on time and present each day continues to be crucial to your student’s success. Daily at-tendance is important for both morning and afternoon, as our days are jam-packed with learning from the first bell to the last. Next, we are coming back around to multipli-

cation in our math units and will begin testing multiplication facts weekly when we return to school in January. These tests will be in addition to our adding and subtracting tests and are all in an effort to increase Math Fact Fluency. Math Fact Fluency leads to better number sense and greater success in math! Your child should be practicing their facts each night to prepare for these tests. Lastly, please remember to have your child continue to read for 20 minutes each night. Thank you for your support and for sharing your students with us. Happy Holidays!

Hello 4th Grade Parents! First, we would like to thank all of the parents who volunteered their time and/or gave donations to help with our Fall Festival! We are so incredibly grateful! Thank you! Next, as we begin the month of December and move towards Winter Break, please encourage your child to stay focused and on task during classroom instruction. Also, please remember to have your child read at least 20 minutes each night, especially over Winter Break! 20 minutes of reading a day, over 5 years, is 600 hours of reading time - the equivalent of 24 extra weeks

of school! Lastly, we are still accepting donations of hand sanitizer and Kleenex as the months begin to bring colder weather. Thank you for your support and Happy Holidays!

Mr. McFrederick Ms. Barber Mr. Martin 696-8341 696-8311 696-8352

Happy December! As the weather is cooling down, please make sure you send your child to school with appropriate clothing such as jackets, pants, and closed toed shoes. Remember that each month your child will come home with a math and reading assignment that we would like them to complete with an adult at home. The purpose of these assignments is to expand academic discussions outside the classroom. If you ever have any questions please

do not hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Sixth Grade News

Hello 6th grade families! As the first semester comes to close, we will be having some assemblies and PTO events. Please be on the lookout for any flyers and reminders coming home. Also, please be sure to check your child’s agenda every evening. Students will write any events that are happening at our school in their agendas, along with their nightly homework. Our engineering projects are underway! Students should now

be working on their designs. We will be having a Science Night on Dec. 12 from 5:30 -6:30 p.m. where students have the opportunity to come and work on their engineering projects. Students will be able to start designing, building, testing, and collecting data, and Mrs. Camero will be on hand to help! We are still doing Parent Engagement this month. Be sure to read 20 minutes every night with your child and help them with their math facts fluency. Happy Holidays from us to you! We hope you enjoy this time with your families and friends.

Hello Bulldogs! Welcome to December- I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break and are celebrating the holiday season with friends and family. A huge thank you to the donors who chipped in to help make this Thanksgiving special for some of our families, we literally can't do that without you. Thank you so much. We're celebrating this season too- here's how!

Wednesday the 4th will be our PTO meeting, in the Library. It's held at 2:30 pm and we always have childcare and translation. Then, on Friday, December 6 at the suc-cess assembly, the winning classes from the cookie dough sales will be competing in the pig races! Always a great event. On Wednesday the 11th, our Santa Shop will be opening up. Because of the construction, this year it will be in the Library. Family night will be that Wednesday night and probably again on Friday the 13th (spooky.)

Thank you for all of your help in 2019, and we'll see you all in 2020!
