Suggestion Spend some time making your own
consultation map
Pay attention to the key stakeholders
Use different lines, colours and positions toindicate some of the relationships you are
aware of
Might the map be something you could sharewith others involved in the process?
How might this impact upon a) your thinking,
b) your practice?

Suggestion Using the AMT Framework (Burnham 1992), start to
account for your own consultation practices
Explore some of the links and/or inconsistencies
between the 3 layers
Which are the areas of greatest strength a) for you,
b) for the people you consult to? How do you
maintain these strengths?
Where do you experience the most noticeablechallenges? How do you work to manage these
effectively?

consultation work and the ways in which it is
organised
Which bits are similar to the methodsmentioned on the previous slide?
What additional methods might you and your
colleagues be using? What factors are taken into account
(organisationally & individually) when making
decisions about which method/s to use?

And finally...........
You have heard about a systemic model ofconsultation
The consultation process is systematic and multi
layered providing multiple opportunities to assist site
staff in developing good practice Contractual and model fidelity forces have been
clearly identified and the consultants role in
supporting these is explicit
You have been invited to consider your own
consultation practices and to begin to articulate
these using some suggested frameworks
