WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?In math, we continued our unit on

multiplication and division with whole numbers anddecimals. This week, we practiced different strategies

to multiply two and three digit numbers. Many of thestrategies we have learned involve breaking the problem apart, so it is very important that studentsknow their multiplication facts. Students can practicefacts at home with flash cards. There are also somegreat games and activities under the math links on our class webpage.

We also wrapped up our science unit, titled“Variables”. With this three week focus, we werehoping to give our students some important,

fundamental science knowledge that they will build on

in middle school and beyond. Our class conductedexperiments with Flippers this week. We also took the

end of module assessment, which will be shared atconferences.

Because of the short week, there was nospelling list this week. Next week, we will continuewith spelling and start a new book club based on the

historical fiction genre. Next week, we will begin our next IB Planner

titled Civil Struggles. The central idea of this planner isthat societies have civil conflicts due to differences.

Inquiry will focus on different civil struggles of the past and today, including the Civil War.We are continuing to work on demonstrating

the IB learner profiles and attitudes. Our classroom hashad a hard time lately showing respect towardsclassmates and adults. Please continue to discussappropriate and respectful behaviors for school withyour child.

As we approach the spring, please remind your child to be responsible with turning work in on time.We have had several students struggling to complete

their homework on time over the past couple weeks.

WILD ABOUT

READING!!We have great news! Our class

received 5,300 votes in the publiconline vote which put us in second place. Because we were in the top2, we earned the Hat Trick Prize. This includes a trip to the XcelEnergy Center, where students

will watch the Wild hockey team practice, tour the facility, enjoylunch, and have a story read tothem by a current Wild player.

They have not set a date for thisyet, but I will be getting that

information to you as soon as Ihear. We will need a couple

chaperones, but I anticipate using

a lottery system for those who areinterested. Thanks for voting!!!!

WE NEED PENCILS AND KLEENEX!!Our class is in desperate need of pencils and is

also running low on Kleenex! If you are willing

to donate either of these items, please send themwith your child to school. Thank you!
