Dear Residents,
We are quickly approaching the busy Holiday Season! I, like many of you, enjoy this season for so
many reasons: the beautiful decorations that fill each room with fall colors, the smell of delicious home
-cooked family recipes, and the traditional games played by multiple generations. Holidays such as
Thanksgiving give us the opportunity to gather with loved ones and appreciate each other’s company.
We get to reminisce and share memories of the past while creating new ones. This is also a time for us
to recall and be reminded of all the love that God has blessed us with, whether it be from family,
friends, neighbors, or teammates.
During this holiday season, I ask you to please keep your neighbors in mind as we here at The
Wesleyan are not only a community, but a family! Let us come together to celebrate all of the blessings
that have been bestowed upon us. Let us look after each other, not only physically or emotionally, but
spiritually too.
I also wanted to share that I feel blessed every day to be a part of such a vibrant community. You
continue to share your talents with our entire community and to give back to our community in so
many different ways. Thank you to our woodshop men who have created a beautiful cross that has
been placed in the East Building entrance and has been blessed by our Chaplain, Inell Claypool.
Please take a moment to see this glorious addition!
May God continue to bless our community!
Sincerely,
Eva M. Carrizales
Residential Administrator

Teammate Spotlight - November 2019
Who is Adam Wilson? You know, he’s the friendly redheaded young man greeting all who frequent the
Bistro Tuesday through Saturday. Since he is much too busy making and serving his customers (us) a tasty
sandwich, salad, soup and/or desserts, this reporter finally caught him at the end of a long day at Estrella.
Adam has been the Bistro cook for about 8 months and appreciates the opportunity it has given him to learn
how to plan menus as well as prepare meals.
The recent loss of his much-admired dad, who helped Adam become who
he is, has been difficult for both him and his mother. Adam learned much
from his father’s business, Wilson Family Services, especially the
importance of earning the trust of your customers through honesty.
Adam feels that here at Estrella he has the opportunity to expand his man-
agement skills and win the confidence of a lunch crowd. What a perfect
team – an ambitious young entrepreneur “wanna be” and a building filled
with hungry, well-seasoned senior-citizens! Thank you, Adam.

Speaker– Bob Stogdill- “Confederate
Revolvers”
Attention History Nuts and Gun Buffs
If one is interested in U.S. or Texas history, the
Civil War looms very large. The Confederacy
was lacking in manufacturing capacity so
military hardware was in short supply,
especially revolvers. After 150 years, surviving
examples are particularly scarce. Bob Stogdill
was recently allowed access to a remarkable
private collection of 4 rare Confederate Civil War
revolvers and was allowed to photograph them.
The back stories on these and the other 10
models of revolvers issued by the confederacy
are most interesting.

Psalm 100:4,5 (KJV) 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless
his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and
his truth endureth to all generations.
Growing up, it seemed like we recited these words
responsively every first Sunday. While I knew the words by
heart, I didn’t have them in my heart. Many years would pass
before I began to understand the power of thanksgiving.
One poignant moment during a private time of praise and
worship, I felt in my spirit the phrase, “access granted.” The
phrase came over me, and I understood. Thanksgiving is like a
password that gives us access to God’s presence. Praise gives
us passage to His promises.
Only until we are filled with thanksgiving can we experience
God’s goodness fully here on earth. We cling to the promise
that we can do all things through Him, and rely on His
perspective instead of ours. There is help, hope and healing in
His presence. We have access to joy. The password is simple,
but not always easy to remember.
This month of November, I invite you to add the spiritual
formation practice of thanksgiving into your daily walk. You
might be surprised by what opens up to you.
