In the past month we administered the school-wide ACT and Work Keys exams for all Juniors, performed an outstanding play, Paragon Spring, sent 3 wrestlers to state and our first-year Robotics Team qualified for the World competition in St. Louis at the end of April. In addition, 14 of our district Solo/Ensemble events qualified for State competition on May 7th at Cardinal Stritch University. We have also had our share of challenges in the past two months, most notably the numerous threats that we received. We are much relieved to get things back to normal and resume the important work we are all here to do at Central. Many thanks to everyone in the building, the district, the police and fire departments, and the community for their help and support as we managed this series of incidents, always keeping student and staff safety as our number one priority. It is often in these trying times that we get an opportunity to see so many people at their best. And that we did. Thank You. As we look to the spring, we know it will be busy as always with spring sports, testing, and of course, graduation. Parents and guardians of Juniors and Seniors, if you have not done so already, please take a moment to check out scholarship opportunities. You will find a link to available scholarships on the Central High School Home Page under the Student tab at the tab of the page. You can also contact the Student Services office at 414-604-3120 for more information. We know this time of year goes very quickly. We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities for students and families at Central. As always, please continue encouraging your student(s) to get plenty of rest, eat well, and practice good time management to ensure all of the work gets done as we approach the final leg of the 2015-2016 school year. ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLANS

ldquoWhy Do I Have To Learn This Stuffrdquo Without a doubt students have been asking this age-old question for many years School Counselors in our District have been able to help answer this question for students in a very meaningful way for several years now through the

implementation of our Comprehensive Student Services program which has included Individual Student Planning Conferences for all students in grades 5 8 9 and 11 As you may know these strength-based conferences have helped students to set realistic Academic Personal-Social and Career goals together with their parentsguardians and counselors This has provided students with more insight as to why they should take certain courses and how the courses are useful to them as they relate to possible career interests

Beginning in the 2017-18 school year Wisconsin State Law (11528(59) ACADEMIC AND CAREER PLANNING) requires that school districts must provide these services to all students in grades 6-12 through the development of individualized Academic and Career Plans Our District along with 24 other districts across Wisconsin has been selected to participate in a pilot project to get started with the new requirement this school year Our School Counselors will begin this process by working with 9th grade students and their parentsguardians who donrsquot already have a good Academic and Career Plan in place Students and their parentsguardians will receive more detailed information about this from Ms Amber Hill School Counselor in the very near future In the meantime if you would like more information about this please feel free to contact Ms Hill at 604-3100 Ext 3123
