W e are so glad that you are with us today! Our service will be to praise and worship God and to encourage and uplift us to face another week. We will sing (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16), pray (James 5:15-18), and partake of the Lord’s Supper to remember our Savior’s sacrifice on the cross (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 11:23-26). We will also give back a portion of the monetary blessings that God has granted us so that we can carry out His work in our community (1 Cor. 16:2, 2 Cor. 9:7). We will also study a lesson from His Word that will hopefully be applicable to our daily lives, so that we can be equipped to handle the pressures of this world and reach those outside of Christ (2 Tim. 2:15). On Sunday, June 14th, we will begin live evening worship in addition to the live Sunday morning worship already in progress. Our Wednesday evening Summer Series will continue online through June. Lord willing, we will be back live beginning Wednesday, July 1st, with speaker Josh Posey.

All In

Off to another great week worshiping together as one family! We are actively working on a summer schedule while maintaining social distancing. We look forward to having Bible classes together in person in the near future! Coming up this Friday, June 12, we are going to

have a youth group “hangout” at our house starting at 5 p.m. They have stocked the river this weekend, so bring your fishing pole! We will try to do an outdoor movie in the evening, as well as play some games and have a bonfire devotional. If you choose to stay, guys are planning on camping in hammocks by the river, and the girls are welcome to stay at the house with Kristin. We look forward to this and many other activities this summer! We are actively working on plans for VBS this summer.

Phoebe Dunn, the family counselor, will be here July 19th if you would like to call and make an appointment. Her number is 334-398-1310.

Welcome back to the Ellijay Church of Christ this morning as we begin another week by gathering to praise God! 2020 has continued to be a year of challenges, and we are so thankful to be back together worshiping for the second Sunday in a row. I am personally appreciative of everyone’s cooperation and willingness to abide by the social distancing guidelines last week and am looking forward to us being with each other more often. Last Sunday was very emotional, and I am so thankful to be part of such an amazing, supportive church family. Speaking of our Sunday services, the elders

have decided that we will resume our Sunday night meetings next Sunday, June 14, at 6:00 PM. Hopefully, this is another step back to normalcy for us all!

The past couple of weeks have been very difficult for our nation. Navigating television and social media is treacherous as we sift through a never-ending series of biased narratives and outright lies. We have all watched in horror as violence has played on an endless loop, and emotions have become raw for the entire country. On Thursday, there was a peaceful protest in downtown Ellijay. While we know the right to assemble is a fundamental freedom granted by our constitution, it certainly caused anxiety for all of us who worried about the safety of both the protestors and citizens of our small town.

As we expressed last week, the only solution for the condition we find ourselves in is a relationship with God through Christ. While that may sound “preachy” to the rest of the world, it is a simple truth. As long as people are led by their fleshly desires, we will witness strife and turmoil. As Paul wrote in Galatians 5:19, the acts of the flesh are obvious! When we submit ourselves totally to God, are transformed into the image of Christ, and led by the Spirit, we can display the love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control so desperately needed right now. As we continue to interact with our theme for 2020, “Love One Another,” I pray that we will show God’s love in every aspect of our lives, including our shares and posts on social media.

Our discussion this morning is somewhat inspired by the events of the last couple of weeks. I have seen such intense passion and fire in people who are generally quiet and subdued. Sometimes it takes a major event to stir us up and lead us to finally speak out. This morning, I want us to consider how we can harness that same passion in our spiritual lives! It should not take a watershed event to ignite our spiritual fervor, but I hope our time this morning can spark the fire within us to be passionate about the ONLY thing that really matters. My prayer is that we can find both the emotion and some practical ways to let our inward, spiritual fire be evident to those around us!
