Computer Virus is man made software that is designed to spread from one computer to another. Which attacks itself to other application or files It infect the computer without the permission of user Virus is computers diseases characteristic There are two major characteristic of virus The ability to replicate itself The ability to attach itself with another computer file What a virus do? First infect your system Take control of your computer It makes copy of itself can harm if you attach any other device Spread from one computer to another Virus can corrupt or delete your data Can erase every thing in your hard desk Symptoms The computer system become slow Hardware troubles Computer does not boot Missing files The size of available space reduces Programs take longer than normal New files keep appearing on the system Symptoms Strange sound or beeping noises come from the computer Strange graphic are displayed on your monitor Letters looking like that they are falling to the bottom of the screen. Restart itself often Fail to print correctly Sources of Virus Virus can enter in your computer from the following ways Download a program from the internet Using cracking software E mail attachment Connecting the infected device History of Virus The first computer virus called Creeper.It was invented in early 1970,since then millions of viruses is invented. The Creeper capable of entering a network by itself and transforming a copy of itself to the system. Types of Virus 1. Boot sector virus 2. Browser Hijacker 3. Direct Action virus 4. File Infector Virus 5. Macro virus 6. Multipartite virus 7. Polymorphic virus 8. Resident virus 9. Web scripting virus Boot Sector Virus Infect the system area of hard desk Boot virus infect the boot record of hard desk and floppy disk It places its own codes and command Browser Hijacker Virus Alert the search and error page of a browser and redirects the user to its own page Direct Action Virus They load with the host program into computer memory They can be crafted with relative ease File Infector virus A file infector virus is type of virus which infect an executable file Typically affect only one type of file Macro virus These type of virus infects application software Like Word,Excel,PowerPoint,access and other data files Once infected repairing of these files is very much difficult Multipartite virus These type of virus infect 1. Boot records 2. Program files This type of virus may attack in more than one method Polymorphic Virus A virus that can encrypt its code in different way do that it appear differently in each infection These viruses is more difficult to detect They are coded in such way that they infect the system and change their signature Resident Virus This type of virus hides within the computer memory Its activates whenever the OS is loads or operates The virus may be pernicious It is of two types Fast infector Slow infector Removal of this virus is bit trickily It may be designed to block the action of anti virus Web Scripting virus There are few website that execute complex code with the purpose to provide interesting content,these code often get exploited and due to this virus become able to infect a machine and to take action on a machine via website. This particular virus is called Web Scripting Virus. Installing an antivirus program and keeping it up to date can help defend your computer against viruses. Antivirus programs scan for viruses trying to get into your, operating system, or files. New viruses appear daily, so set your antivirus software to install updates automatically. Dont openattachments Don't openattachments unless you're expecting them. Many viruses are attached tomessages and will spread as soon as you open theattachment. It's best not to open any attachment unless it's something you're expecting. Windows Firewall (or any other firewall) can help alert you to suspicious activity if a virus or worm attempts to connect to your computer. It can also block viruses, worms, and hackers from attempting to download potentially harmful programs to your computer. Use Browsers Privacy Settings Use your browser's privacy settings. Being aware of how websites might use your private information is important to help prevent fraud and identity theft. Use a Popup Blocker Use a pop-up blocker with your browser. Pop-up windows are small browser windows that appear on top of the website you're viewing. Although most are created by advertisers, they can also contain malicious or unsafe code. A pop-up blocker can prevent some or all of these windows from appearing. Turn on user account control (UAC) Turn on User Account Control (UAC). When changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission, UAC notifies you and gives you the opportunity to approve the change.
