VV Mineral Vaikundarajan Stays Optimistic In Illegal Mining Case

S Vaikundarajan, a sand mining baron, established VV Minerals India in 1989. For over two decades now, the company has been running under his tutelage and grown into a profitable organization.

VV Minerals has bagged several national awards for its contribution to the export business. It is the first to export ilmenite and exports zircon, garnet and rutile.

Vaikundarajan himself is media shy and is known to maintain a low-key profile. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why his photos are not easily available on public domain.

In last few years, VV Mineral Vaikundarajan and his company have been under serious scrutiny. From

being accused of illegal sand mining to having powerful political influence, several allegations have

surfaced without supporting evidence. Naturally, Vaikundarajan has denied all the allegations against him and deemed them as a ploy by rival businesses

to defame his company.

Two civil servants, IAS Ashwin Kumar and ex-IAS V Sundaram have been forthright in these allegations. In one of the letters sent by Sundaram, he accuses Vaikundarajan of looting Rs. 96,000 crore.

Following these claims, the state government has set up an investigating committee. As of today, there is no concrete evidence to suggest any illegal activities on VV Mineral’s part.

VV Mineral Vaikundarajan runs his company out of Tisayanvilai, a town 65 km from Tirunelveli city in south Tamil Nadu. Locals know him as a man of

simple taste who wears a white shirt and dhoti. It is a public knowledge that Vaikundarajan owns shares in Mavis Satcom that has stakes in Jaya TV. He also has

stocks in Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank (TMB). This knowledge has been used unjustly by miscreants to

pressurize Vaikundarajan.

The National Green Tribunal has suspended sand mining activities in coastal areas. VV Mineral Vaikundarajan stays optimistic and states that his enterprise will soon walk clean.
