Volunteers
What is voluntary work?Every one can be a volunteer. Voluntary work means:-Spend time on doing something useful without getting paid (expense allowance)-A volunteer is not on the wage list-Not by virtue of one’s profession-No workplace
What is voluntary work?-Does not compete with paid work-Less than 20 hours a week -Voluntary work is voluntary but not without any obligations
History in the Netherlands
-Late 1800: denominational segregation-Early 1900: increase in wealth and spare time-After WWII: ‘verzorgingsstaat’ an independent country-1960: denominational segregation comes to its end-1970: governmental interest in the volunteer-1990: civil society, the government gives instructions
