The organization prides itself on helping those with immediate and critical needs.

Annually, we provide assistance to nearly 2 million people in communities across the nation, with special emphasis on housing and services for veterans.

In 2008, Volunteers of America servedover 6,000 homeless veterans through housing and services, including

• Service Centers

• Transitional Housing for Veterans (Grant and Per Diem Programs)

• Homeless Veterans Re-Integration Programs (Employment and Training)

• Permanent Supported Housing Programs for Homeless Veterans

• Special Needs Grants for Chronically Mentally Ill and Frail Elderly

• Incarcerated Veterans Transitional Programs (Employment)

At Maple Court in Durham, North Carolina, Volunteers of America provides transitional housing and supportive services to homeless veterans that are transitioning to self-sufficiency.

Made up of 24 one-bedroom rental units, Maple Court is located at the southeast corner of East Carver Street and Commons Boulevard in North Durham.

LIFE House of DurhamLocated across the parking lot from Maple Court, this 24 unit facility provides permanent housing to individuals with physical disabilities, and is another resource for veterans in the community.

The resource center at Maple Court was named after W. Travis Porter III who was renowned throughout North Carolina for his professional accomplishments and investment in the community.

In particular, he was known for his efforts to create low income housing and services for those in need, including veterans.

Throughout their stay, residents meet with the VA representatives on a regular basis, and receive assistance with accessing a variety of services including mental health, substance abuse, and medical care.

 Residents meet with their Maple Court Case Manager according to the frequency set up in the Case Plan, and based on their Phase.

Phase I – Meetings occur two times per week

Phase II – Meetings occur once per week

Phase III – Meetings occur every other week
