By this time I am sure that the majority of the club membership is aware that the recent Membership Referral Program was very suc-cessful. In terms of recruiting new members, the program resulted in 64 Golf and 77 Social Memberships. The addition of these new members has resulted in membership levels as of June 15th that is equal to membership levels a year ago. The importance of this fact is that membership recruiting this year equaled membership attri-tion and the key to growth in the future is to ensure that every year the recruitment of new members outpaces attrition. The financial impact of these new members is important to the financial stability of the club over the next year. A summary of the operating revenue impact of the 141 new members during the next fiscal year not including additional discretionary spending at the club is:

• $275,000 in Dues Revenue (Net $200,000 with monthly credits)• $10,000 in Golf Range Fees• $85,000 in Minimum Food Spending• Minimum Operating Revenue Generated = $295,000

In order to continue to attract new and retain current members, the Board of Directors will be requesting membership approval at a Special Meeting in August focusing on membership issues including a new Golden Membership, changes to Intermediate Membership and the ability for unmarried members to designate a Significant Other. The new Golden Membership is designed to reward long-term members by freezing membership dues at the current level upon attaining a combined age and years of service in the club of 95, with a minimum age of 70 years and at least 10 consecutive years of club membership. Changes to the Intermediate

Membership include removing the cap of 50 total memberships as long as Golf Memberships are available, as well as permitting Intermediate Members to pay reduced dues until attaining 40 years of age. Currently, the Intermediate Membership is full. A Significant Other Policy has been drafted and with membership approval to permit utilization would allow single, unmarried members the ability to designate a significant other under their membership. Notification of the Special Meeting and Open Membership meetings to discuss these issues will be included in your monthly statement.

The implementation of the new Food Minimum Spending from quarterly to semi-annual begins July 1, 2010. For members with last names beginning with the letters A-G, the new minimum cycle is July 1 – December 31. All other members will finish their current quarterly minimum cycle with last names beginning with the letters H-O starting their new semi-annual cycle on August 1 and member names P-Z beginning September 1. As a reminder, the new food minimum spending requirement is $300 for the six month cycle.

While you’re busy utilizing the club this summer, please be aware that we have 141 new members. Please take the time to introduce yourself if you notice an unfamiliar face and welcome them to your club. Also, please be mindful of the dress code when visiting the club and notify your guests prior to arrival at the club to avoid unneces-sary situations. For more information about the club dress code and all other club rules and policies, please visit the club website at www.rvcc.com. You can also review all of the upcoming club events and even register online at the website to make reservations for many club events. I look forward to seeing you at your club!

This tournament has been held here at RVCC for over 50 years as the club continues to sup-port Junior Golf and the future of this wonderful game we all enjoy. Entry blanks are available in the Golf Shop. We also need numerous volunteers to help run the event including scorekeepers, marshals, runners and scoreboard help. Let the Golf Shop know if you are interested in helping. Tee times will run from 7AM to approximately 11AM both Monday and Tuesday.

AcesWe had two more aces since the last bulletin. Kevin Dixon had his second ace in six weeks as he made his one on May 31st on #4 with an 8 iron. Travis Brink, Josh Crews and Michael Goldman witnessed his perfect shot. Ten days later Trina Jones had an ace on #13 with a perfectly struck 8 iron. Her shot was seen by partners Tammie Allen and Tory Nieto. Both players were in the hole-in-one pot which helped pay the bar bill.

Tournament Results Rogue Valley PairsThe low gross for the tournament this year was Steve and Kimberly Wood with a three under par 141 total for the two days. Low net was won by Randy and Bogey Loyd from RVCC with an 21 under par total of 123. Other winners were:

A Flight 2nd gross Paul and Judy JohnsonA Flight 4th net Don & Trina JonesB Flight 3rd gross Mike & Angela GalanteB Flight 3rd net Garth & Rosemary HarringtonC Flight 1st gross Tom & Rochelle Michaels

Best ball winners included Larry & Jeannie Garvin, Tom & Rochelle Michaels, Mike & Gayle Jantzer, Garth & Rosemary Harrington, Steve & Kimberly Wood, Randy & Bogey Loyd, Don & Trina Jones and Phil & Suzanne Iantosca. There were a total of 75 couples entered this year with 25 RVCC couples and 50 from out of town. It is good to know that our tournament is known to be the “best” of the couple events for those who participate in these type of tournaments. The compliments were many!

Tee TimesIt has been noticed that some abuse of the tee time system has occurred lately. We only have a limited number of tee times on a daily basis. Therefore if you make a tee time and make other plans, please notify the Golf Shop or go online and cancel the tee time at your earliest convenience. Please do not leave it on the sheet and just not show up. Secondly, when you make a tee time, fill in all the blanks with either names or an X if you plan on filling all the spots. If you wish the Golf Shop or other members to sign up with you, leave the spots available open and we can fill the spot or other members can fill the openings from home via the internet. The problem occurs when the open tee time is filled by an unknowing member who shows up for his tee time and the people who made the tee time show up with a foursome.

Battle for Breast CancerWe have a new event to be held on Sunday, July 18th with a 1pm Shotgun start. This tournament is to support the battle for Breast Cancer with all proceeds benefiting Providence Hospital Sister Therese Kohles fund. We have the sign ups in the Golf Shop if you are interested. It is a two person scramble and the entry fee will be $25 per person for members and $35 per per-son for non members.

touring America’s newest baseball Parks

Wherever you travel this summer, if you’re a baseball fan, you’ll be tempted to check out the local ballpark. If you’re near one of the fol-lowing new – and spectacular – ballparks, make it a point to visit.

Citi Field in Queens, New York, is the new home of the Mets. The ballpark’s overarching steel bridge motif symbolizes New York City’s 2,000-plus bridges and the team’s connection to all five of New York’s boroughs. The front entrance is a rotunda that honors Brooklyn Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson. More than 40 percent of the park’s 42,000 seats are on the lowest level, bring-ing more fans closer to the action than they could be in the old Shea Stadium. There’s also an incredible array of food to enjoy, including gourmet hamburgers and fries.

The Minnesota Twins have played in six ballparks, but Target Field in downtown Minneapolis is the first built specifically for the team. The stadium’s gates are numbered after retired numbers worn by Twins players, including Kent Hrbek, Rod Carew and Kirby Puckett. Concessions include Minnesota favorites like walleye and Juicy Lucy cheeseburgers, as well as some of the famous “on a stick” foods

served at the Minnesota State Fair. Target Field is an open-air sta-dium, but the heated viewing areas and heated field will help the players and fans keep warm if the weather turns chilly.

National Park in Washington, D.C., home of the Washington Nationals, is the first certified “green” major professional sports stadium in the u.S., which means it meets rigorous standards for resource conservation. Fans who conserve resources by riding their bikes to the game enjoy free valet bike parking, too. The stadium’s modern design includes three levels of upscale club seating, includ-ing the Stars & Stripes Club. This park has earned great reviews for its seating, with ample leg room and excellent sight lines.

Ask your travel professional to help you work a visit to a major league ballpark into your summer vacation itinerary.

From The Lesson Tee By Ed Fisher

A little midseason reflection. Teachers typically have little phrases that apply to various recurring situations. Of course, we are all unique but are connected in many ways. So, I started thinking about my favorite phrases that tend to come out at key times dur-ing the course of instructing my students or during a round of golf. Here is a small collection.

• “The most important shot is the one you hit after a bad one.” This would imply that somewhere in the course of playing a round of golf that you are going to hit a bad shot. That’s right! You are going to hit a “bad” shot. Bad being a relative term. The key here is; don’t follow a bad shot with a worse one. Get out of trouble...NOW. Start a chain of successes.

• “Golf is not a game of perfect” Sorry, this is not my quote. It belongs to Tour Guru Bob Rotella and is the title of one of his books. Remember, the best players in the world hit 3-5 shots a round exactly like they want. What’s your expecta-tion?

• “Drive for show, putt for dough.” I’m not buying this one. Everyone loves to say this and, admittedly, putting is for the money. However, driving establishes the pattern for the rest of the hole as well as a positive mindset. Drive to put the ball in play. Hal Sutton was recently quoted as saying that his only regret from his years on tour is that he spent one sec-ond of his time worrying about how far he hit the ball.

• “Never hit two putts in a row in the same direction”. Again, not my quote but I love it. First reaction from most people is “What’d he say?” upon further review, the next response is “Ohhh, I get it” I would estimate that if I hit all my putts the right distance, I’d make up to 25% more putts. That’s a good thing.

And finally...

• “Every shot makes someone happy.” Oooh, this one can hurt. A dear friend of mine informed me of this one while I was lamenting my poor misfortune on a particular shot. It didn’t “ease my pain”. I guess that’s why he went to Stanford and I didn’t.
