Volume II, Issue 26 March 9, 2016 Community Tuition Rates Attached to this issue of Trojan News is the tuition rates for the 2016-2017 school year accompanied by the registration form (in the family envelope) for next year. After thoughtful dialogue and careful planning, the Finance Committee proposed a 6.4% increase in tuition to the School Board. The School Board supported and passed the tuition increase for the 2016-2017 school year. The most significant factor causing the tuition increase is that the Diocese of Oakland has increased the fixed costs (including employee benefits, worker’s compensation insurance, general liability insurance, and DCS School Assessments) this makes up over 4% of the tuition increase. Some of the fixed costs increases are reflected in the $15 increase in school registration fees. In addition to the increased fixed costs, the tuition increase is also due to the expected decrease in enrollment. This year, we will graduate thirty-three (33) 8 th grade students. At this time, there are twenty (20) students accepted for kindergarten for next year. This represents a decline of thirteen (13) students. We anticipate adding more students in other grades, but the addition of new students will likely not oset the dierence from the graduating class to the incoming class. The School Board felt that it was necessary to set tuition rates assuming a realistic enrollment number to ensure that the school has sucient resources in the coming year. WCEA/WASC Parent Survey School accreditation takes place every 6 years. All Catholic schools in the country are accredited by their state or regional boards of education to verify its academic standing as an educational institution. This year the staand the board have been engaged in a process of providing valuable and necessary input that will be used as a self-study to document student learning at Assumption, to highlight educational and support programs and to outline how resources are stewarded for learning. The process is focused on student learning so much of the content is generated by teachers and sta. We are now at the point in the narrative where we want/need to receive input from parents. By taking 15 minutes to complete the survey you are assisting us with our accreditation requirement and providing much needed feedback. Here is the link to our WCEA/WASC Parent Survey. Please complete by Thursday, March 24. All classes with 100% parent participation will receive a free dress day. “Jacob’s school Mandarin teacher was impressed with his progress last summer through SpeakMandarin.com. He has been at the top of his Mandarin II class all year, and he has at-tributed much of that to what he has learned via SpeakMan-darin.com. I have already told many other parents about how pleased we have been.”- - Jennifer Bennett, - parent of HS student
