    FAA BEGAN UAS (Drone) REGISTRY

Starting December 21, the Federal Avia-tion Administration began requiring every-one to register UAS’s, unmanned aerial systems. Sometimes they are referred as drones. The owner – whether it’s a new purchase or a UAS that’s been flying for years – will have to register a name, a physical address and an email address with the FAA. Existing owners will have to register by Feb. 19, 2016, and new buyers will have to register before their first flight. The registration site is available at: www.faa.gov/uas/registration and registra-tion will cost $5 for an unlimited number of aircraft and will be valid for three years. The credit-card transaction will help con-firm the owner's identity, and the fee will be refunded during the first month, to encourage people to register early.

    WANTED: KANSAS 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS

COMMITTEE MEMBERS Agents, Volunteers and youth with a passion for 4-H Shooting Sports are encouraged to complete applications to serve on the Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports Committee (formally the 4-H Shoot-ing Sport Action Team). Applications are available on the Kansas 4-H Web site. The 4-H Shooting Sports Committee guides the 4-H Shooting Sport program in cooperation with the State 4-H Office. Serving on the Committee is a great leadership opportunity for anyone interested in 4-H Shooting Sports. Adult terms are five years. For more information concerning the Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports Committee contact Jennifer 620-244-3826.

4-H SHOOTING SPORTS Youth Must be 8 before January 1

National 4-H Shooting Sports provides policies that all states must follow when offering 4-H Shooting Sports. One policy clarification that has affected the Kansas 4-H Shooting Sports Program is the no Cloverbuds policy. Rightfully so, Kansas allows 4-H members to join at age 7; however, Nationally 4-H Cloverbuds is defined as youth ages 5-7 years-old and National 4-H Shooting Sports has clarified in the written policy Cloverbuds ages 5-7. This clarifica-tion is based on risk management and safety; therefore in offering 4-H Shooting Sports Kansas 4-H must follow the National policy. Further questions may be forwarded Jennifer 620-244- 3826.

REGISTERED VOLUNTEERS SHOULD ENROLL in 4HONLINE

The State 4-H Office enters Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse and Neglect Registry completion dates in members’ 4HOnline profiles. Local Extension units are able to utilize the Additional Information page to track each step of the Initial Volunteer Screening. Volunteer Screening reports have been created and exist in the Shared Directory.
