Dear MUMC,
Thank you for your generous contribution to Central Methodist University.
I am a junior Criminal Justice and Political Science Major at Central. Any scholarship I receive is greatly appreciated as I plan to continue my education at law school upon my graduation at CMU.
Thank you again!
God Bless.
Sincerely,
Mattie Bradley
We want to express our appreciation to the Memorial UM Church family for the prayers, cards and expressions of support over the death of our brother James Hayes.
Connie and Pete Soens
Dear Memorial United Methodist,
It is difficult to think of one single way to thank you for the generosity God has placed in your hearts. Let us try by sending you blessings through our prayers when we glorify The Lord for our friends and their love for those in need.
By God’s grace and donors such as yourselves, we are able to help others get back on their feet and keep our facility open.
We are always in need of volunteers, so please feel free to call or come by and tour our facility if you are interested.
Blessings,
Shelly L. Bess
Director
Thank you Memorial United Methodist Church for your contribution of healthy animals and training in their care to help struggling families overcome a life of hunger and poverty.

UMW Spring Salad Luncheon 2017
Request of Help
Spring is Coming! And with that brings the UMW Spring Salad Luncheon! Mark your calendars for March 24th. We will need your delicious salads, as well as lots of volunteers. If you have never had the opportunity to help with the luncheon, you do not know what you missing! It is great fun, a little hard work, but a chance to fraternize with many great women of the church. You do not have to be a member of UMW, but it is a good opportunity to meet some of our UMW ladies. We will need volunteers on Wednesday, March 22nd to decorate and set tables. Then on Friday, we will need waitresses, kitchen helpers and best of all, a clean-up crew. I look forward to having you help make this another great project for the United Methodist Women and for our church. Please call me Susan Webb, if you would like to help. My number is 573-631-8103 or 573-756-2640. Thanks and I will see you in the spring!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK BY REV. SCOTT HALL
Grace and Peace
Christian teaching has always been that God cares. The proof of this teaching is that God sent Jesus Christ into the world to live and to die for us. The very basis of our faith is that God is and that God cares. As we grow to know God, we realize that God is not only love, but that God is also holiness. If then God is holy, God cannot look with indifference at sin and disobedience. Therefore, there enters into life the necessity for repentance. Repentance is very easily misunderstood. Repentance involves three things. It involves the realization that we have done and been wrong. It involves sorrow that we have done and been wrong. The third important thing about repentance is that it involves reformation. It means a desire to be a changed and a new person. For us as Christians, this all centers in Jesus Christ. It is in Jesus that we see what God is like; it is through Jesus that we see what sin can do and this knowledge moves us to repentance. It is also gloriously seen in Jesus that sin is forgiven and in Christ we find the picture of the new life we are called to live and through Jesus the strength to live it. This movement is toward salvation, the very hope of all our lives. This movement takes place through the power of Jesus Christ and this is why as Christians our entire being, physical and spiritual, must be continuously given in knowing Christ. Join us as we search, rejoice with us as we find, and be with us as we prepare to enter a new kingdom

You are invited to a retreat at “Selah Among the Hills”!
This will be a time of reflection and renewal after the busy holidays. For many, this is a step back in time when we attended “Epworth Among the Hills”.
Come renew and perhaps relive those memories or make new memories and new friends. Think back and be ready to lead the group in some of your favorite camp songs. Some of you remember Anne Ledbetter and Ann Randel leading us in several spirited camp songs, actions and all, a couple of years ago at our retreat. Be prepared as well to have quiet times, fun times and renewal of the spirit times.
The dates are Feb. 17 – 19, with 4 options available.
$250 for a 2 night retreat with 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, two dinners, beverages and tax included. (arrival: 2:30 on Friday and depart 12:00 noon on Sunday.
$200 for a 1 night retreat with 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 2 dinners. (arrival: 2:30 p.m. on Friday and depart 8:30 p.m. on Saturday)
$175 for a one night retreat with 1 breakfast, 1 lunch and 1 dinner. (arrival: 2:30 p.m. on Friday and depart at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday) $50 for a Day retreat with lunch. (arrival: 10:00 a.m. and depart 4:00 pm on Saturday)
There will be two or three choices of activities on Saturday afternoon. A small charge may or may not be required for these, depending on your choice.
Look for registration forms at the Welcome Center at church or call or e-mail:
Nancy Lynch, 573-760-5708 or [email protected]
Note: A nonreturnable deposit of $50 will hold your reservation.
The United Methodist Men will once again have a Valentine Dinner in
Fellowship Hall on Monday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. Dave Black will preform live on stage. A wonderful dinner will be prepared by none other than Bruce Slinkard and his side kicks. Can you believe ~ ham, potatoes, green beans, salad and a delicious dessert baked by Judy Mullins, yum-yum! Table decorations, by the one and only Vicky Cleve and her crew.
Guess who is going to be our EMCEE? You got it! Steve Slinkard. Be good to Steve, he is in charge of prizes to be given away. Yes, you might go home with something special.
I bet you are wondering what all this is going to cost? Can you believe only $5 per person. Or a special of two for $10! Now you want to know where you can buy these tickets? UM Men will have a table set up in the Foyer, or you can buy them in the office. You will get a ticket for each person, hang on to them, you just might win a prize.
The UMM look forward to serving you, and we hope you will enjoy a wonderful evening.

A Word from our UMW President
The 2017 UMW Handbooks are now ready. Your Circle chairperson has the new pages. You will receive them at your regular meeting, or you can make special arrangements to pick them up.
There are a few corrections to be noted: On page 3, the UMW Retreat will be held August 5th (not the 12th). On page 4, the May 15 meeting will be held at 9 a.m. (not 7 p.m.). On page 5, change the retreat day to August 5 and enter October 15th as UMW Sunday. Please note these corrections and update your personal calendar with all the information from the handbook.
Our first Unit Meeting of the year is planned for February
20 at 1 p.m.. There are two gatherings in March you may want to attend: (1) Conference Spiritual Retreat March 3-4 in Columbia, MO. we have no registration information
at this time. (2) Gateway Regional District Lenten Prayer Breakfast to be held March 11 at Festus First UMC. If you would like to attend one or both meetings, talk to
your circle chairperson. Perhaps transportation can be arranged. Lets try to get 10% of our UMW membership to attend.

RUMMAGE SALE
May 5 & 6
There will be ONLY ONE sale this year.
KINDNESS STARTS WITH ONE
February is sometimes known as the “love” month. It is now also known as the Random Acts of Kindness Month. What are random acts of kindness? It happens when we make a deliberate attempt to brighten another person's day by doing something thoughtful, nice, and caring for another. Sometimes a person ahead of you in a restaurant drive through will pay for the person behind them. This act sometimes continues for several cars.
Have you been the recipient of a random act of kindness? Have you offered a random act of kindness? How was it received?
This month let’s reach out to someone we don’t know. It could be a smile, a cup of coffee, shovel a sidewalk or offer someone a ride. You could leave a piece of chocolate on a coworker’s desk or a flower on a neighbor’s doorstep.
Kindness can change the world. In February, think kindness. Act kind. It is contagious.

Growing Room Preschool
We are finally getting into the swing of things after Christmas break and a couple of snow days. We have been going to the Boy Scout basement and getting out the bikes. When we finally got everyone going in the same direction, everyone had a great time.
We will soon be getting ready for our Spaghetti Supper. It will be Friday, February 24, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The preschoolers will be preforming at this event. This is a very enjoyable evening. The tickets are available from the church office, a preschooler, or at the door. Tickets are $7 each. Children 5 and under are free.
The preschool is currently enrolling for the 2017-2018 school year. Please contact the preschool or the church office for additional information. We try to have a fun educational program for the children.
