Miscellaneous EMERGENCY GENERATOR TESTING The Physical Plant Maintenance personnel will be testing the emergency generator at ANTHONY HALL. This will require Physical Plant electricians to have the life safety systems power off on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from

6:15 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. This shutdown will affect the stairwell lighting, exit lighting, fire alarm systems, phone systems and any other equipment on the emergency generator. This shutdown will not affect normal building power. Position InformationThe Director will have administrative responsibility to develop and maintain excellence in agricultural research and educational programs for the Central Grasslands Research Extension Center, located near Streeter, ND. The Director will provide leadership, supervision and performance evaluations for nine Center staff, and facilitate collaboration of the Center staff with other research and extension professionals in the NDSU system, agencies, organizations, and entities that aid agriculture, related industries, or economic activities in the region. The Director will manage the Center’s budget and coordinate budget development in conjunction with the Director of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, the CGREC advisory board and State Board of Agricultural Research and Education. The Director will provide leadership in obtaining external, competitively funded research and/or educational awards, and develop collaborative projects important to the well-being of rural communities, agricultural production systems and natural resources in the Missouri Coteau region. The Director also is expected to carry out research and outreach that is consistent with the AES mission and relevant to the region and the state. The program emphasis areas at CGREC include management of rangeland natural resources and grasslands in the Missouri Coteau region. In addition, the CGREC conducts research on beef cattle production and forage production systems. Additional collaborative projects include long-term ecological studies, alternative forage systems and forage production for biofuels.

The Central Grasslands Research Extension Center is one of seven out-state NDSU Research Extension Centers. The CGREC is located in the Missouri Coteau region of North Dakota in an area bounded by the Missouri River on the west and James River on the east. The CGREC base of operation is on 5,300 acres of land with 3,800 acres as native, mixed-grass prairie and 1,500 acres of cultivated annual and perennial forages and crops. A herd of over 400 head of beef cattle is used in range and livestock research projects. The surrounding area has an abundance of wildlife species including generous waterfowl populations.

Animal Science Staff Excellence Award

Purpose: To recognize the efforts and contributions of selected departmental support staff employees whose work has supported the accomplishment and spirit of the Animal Science vision.

Timeframe: The award will be presented at the Animal Science Spring Picnic every year. Award: $500 and a plaque Due Date: Nomination forms must be returned to the Department Advisory Committee (DAC) by

5:00 p.m., March 31st every year.

Nomination forms are available on the web or from a DAC member. The DAC will review nominations and give a recommendation to the Chairperson. Nominations will remain active for 3 years. Each year the nominator will be contacted to update the application and determine eligibility. Self nominations will also be accepted. Criteria and Selection Procedures: The nominee should be a person who has either exhibited a pattern of behavior or performed exceptionally in one or more of the following areas: Nominees must exhibit a positive attitude and approach to their job and work group. The desired candidate should go beyond their duty, contribute to the overall operation/performance of the department, and promote a harmonious workplace. The nominee must have been an employee of Animal Science for more than 2 years.

Weight

1. Embrace Learning and Education: The nominee should demonstrate a willingness to be a lifelong learner, seeking information and assimilating that information into their work and leadership. They should make use of professional development or other opportunities for learning to improve their skills, mentor new employees, and/or acquire meaningful experiences.

2. Participation in Departmental Activities: The nominee should play an active role in the activities of the department and demonstrate a willingness to take a leadership role when appropriate. The activities could include serving on a council, committee or work group; focusing on student learning or improvement of quality processes within the department; and participation in promoting or demonstrating pride of ownership in the department, such as participation in college/department booths, promoting the department to others outside the department, etc.
