we hope will grow our numbers and strengthen ourmembership.Over the past year under the direction of DanielDeMaio, theCSRTboardsponsoredtwoinnovativeCEevents at breweries in Stratford and Bristol thatbroughtradiographersfromaroundthestatetogether.Iwould like tocontinue thisnewtraditionandwouldliketospreadoutovermoreofthestatetohearwhatradiographers are thinking and what challenges youmaybe facing in yourprofession.Unfortunately, I amnotoriginallyfromConnecticutsoIdonotknowofallofthewonderfulplacesthatarepossiblevenuesforCEevents. I would like to learnmore about your localeand look forward to hearing from radiographersaroundthestateaboutpossiblevenuesthatwemaybeabletoutilizeinthenextfewmonths. The board also sponsored CE events in multiplehospitals, againhoping tohear from radiographers inthe stateandgrowourmembership. CEevents tookplace in New London, Manchester, Middletown,Stamford and Farmington. We know other facilitiesareout there andwearewilling to come toyour sitewhenauthorizedbyyouradministration.I would like to continue building our society byworking with the student radiographers in the state.Last year, the CSRT sponsored a national speaker tocomeandaddressstudentsonissuesrelatedtodigitalradiography.The110studentsrepresentingmany
different state programs learnedmany new conceptsand facts about the latest digital equipment. In anefforttoincreasestudentparticipationintheCSRT,theboard is forming a student committee to hear theissues and concerns of our student radiographers. Iplantoinvestigatethechallengesthatkeepthemfromjoiningoursocietyandremoveanyobstacle thatmaybe in theirpath. CSRTisYourLegislativeWatchdog!
TheCSRTwill continue tomonitor state legislative activitywith the help of our lobbyist, Josh Hughes from CapitolConsulting, LLC. This legislative monitoring is somethingtheCSRTtakesseriously.Forexample, wehaveworkedwithmembers in the past to introduce legislation to includeRadiographers in the state’s SickLeaveBill. TheCSRThasalso recently helped the Nuclear Medicine Technologistswithlegislationimportanttotheirpractice. The CSRT understands that you can get your CEU creditsseveral ways - online, at a conference, through journaldirectedreadings, etc.WhilemanyCEcompaniesandotherorganizations may fill the niche for continued education, they certainly do not supply the technologists in any statewith legislative monitoring. That is the role of yourprofessionalsociety,TheConnecticutSocietyofRadiologicTechnologists.TheCSRT’slegislativecommitteealongwiththe ASRT, monitors state legislation that might affect theRT’shereinCT.Thismonitoringalsoincludeswatchingthestatebudget, andhowreimbursementstoourpracticeswill
affect the employmentmarket in Connecticut. Due to newstate legislation last year, hospitals and private radiologypracticessufferedareductioninreimbursementformedicalimagingprocedures. We learnedof this pending legislationearlyand immediately sprung intoaction! With thehelpoftheASRT, theCSRTsentoutanemail toallASRTmemberstocontactyourStateRepresentativeandaskedthemnottocutreimbursements.IfyouareanASRTmember, youmightsee similar emails again this year. Please take the time toopen and act on them. Help us continue to safeguard theinterests of all members of the radiologic science andmedicalimagingprofessionhereinConnecticut. Our legislative work is a huge part of what makesmembershipintheCSRTaveryworthwhileinvestment–foronly $30 per year! A strong membership translates into astrong voice at the state level. Spread the word about thevalueoftheCSRTandhelpmakethatvoiceevenstronger.

Inmemoriam…
EileenNoble(62)
It is with deep regret that the CSRT acknowledges the death of Eileen Noble (62) who passed away on Nov 4, 2015 after a brave battle with small cell lung cancer. Eileen was Director of Radiology Associates and MidState Medical Center in Meriden for 41 years. She was a long time member of the CSRT who urged her staff's involvement in their professional organizations. Four weeks before her death, she was at our Annual Conference still supporting us right to the end. Our deepest condolences to her family - husband Drew, son Doug, daughter Kellie and 4 grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, not only by them, but by her Radiology family at Radiology Associates as well.
With deepest sympathy.....
