Crum, MS, RT(R)(CT) It is my honor to write to you as the elected president of the CSRT, Inc. for 2015-2016. The world is changing and with those changes come more and more stressors on members of all professions, including radiography - new technology, more training, and new regulations, just to name a few. Regulatory bodies are imposing change on our profession and I would like the CSRT to be the organization you turn to for the latest information that may affect how you practice your profession. It is impossible for a working radiographer to keep up with the many changes on the horizon. But as a member of your professional organization, we all may be able to stay abreast of any changes that may come. The CSRT Board is the mouthpiece for the radiographers in the state of Connecticut. To that end, I am appealing to every radiographer in the state to become an advocate for your profession. Make your voice heard, stand up for what you believe in and never settle for someone else telling you how to be a radiologic professional. Many of the 3000+ Connecticut radiographers are members of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), our national organization. The ASRT provides wonderful benefits including continuing education (CE) credits. The ASRT works on a national level to address radiographers’ concerns. The CSRT is a state- level organization that monitors and addresses more local issues. The CSRT, Inc. works very closely with the ASRT, but we know our state better than anyone else does and we want to know our radiographers better than anyone else in healthcare does. While I am happy to announce the CSRT is financially stable this year, we still have a long way to go to maintain that stability. With the support of the ASRT’s Affiliate Financial Assistance Program, we were able to develop our new website (see more on page 3) to communicate more quickly with the busy radiographers across this state. We are able to continue to provide a lobbyist to monitor legislation that could affect radiographers in the state. We’re busy working on a number of additional initiatives that CSRT Connecticut Society of Radiologic Technologists President’s Message Newsline Winter 2016 CSRT, INC

CSRTisYourLegislativeWatchdog!

TheCSRTwill continue tomonitor state legislative activitywith the help of our lobbyist, Josh Hughes from CapitolConsulting, LLC. This legislative monitoring is somethingtheCSRTtakesseriously.Forexample, wehaveworkedwithmembers in the past to introduce legislation to includeRadiographers in the state’s SickLeaveBill. TheCSRThasalso recently helped the Nuclear Medicine Technologistswithlegislationimportanttotheirpractice. The CSRT understands that you can get your CEU creditsseveral ways - online, at a conference, through journaldirectedreadings, etc.WhilemanyCEcompaniesandotherorganizations may fill the niche for continued education, they certainly do not supply the technologists in any statewith legislative monitoring. That is the role of yourprofessionalsociety,TheConnecticutSocietyofRadiologicTechnologists.TheCSRT’slegislativecommitteealongwiththe ASRT, monitors state legislation that might affect theRT’shereinCT.Thismonitoringalsoincludeswatchingthestatebudget, andhowreimbursementstoourpracticeswill

Inmemoriam…

EileenNoble(62)

It is with deep regret that the CSRT acknowledges the death of Eileen Noble (62) who passed away on Nov 4, 2015 after a brave battle with small cell lung cancer. Eileen was Director of Radiology Associates and MidState Medical Center in Meriden for 41 years. She was a long time member of the CSRT who urged her staff's involvement in their professional organizations. Four weeks before her death, she was at our Annual Conference still supporting us right to the end. Our deepest condolences to her family - husband Drew, son Doug, daughter Kellie and 4 grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, not only by them, but by her Radiology family at Radiology Associates as well.

With deepest sympathy.....
