On July 16, 1932, in Greenbrier County, W.Va., Mrs. Edythe Alexander Jewell, while visiting family, gave birth to Dallas. Little did the people on that day realize the impact this little baby boy would have on thousands of people. The kind of impact he would have was formed July 2, 1948. This is the day he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

Dallas was the son of the Rev. James M. Jewell. Growing up in the home of a pastor, he developed a passion for reaching people with the Gospel. During this time, God called him into the ministry. To prepare for the ministry, he attended Holmes Bible College in Greenville, S.C. He then transferred to Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga.

On July 9, 1957, he married the love of his life, Juanita Boggs. This marriage produced four sons: Terry, Jerry, Tim and Scott. The sons married and gave Dallas and Juanita eight grandchildren to spoil. Two of the sons, Terry and Scott, are pastors.

Dallas served as pastor in Shady Springs, W.Va.; French’s Chapel, Va.; Draper Valley, Va.; Staunton, Va.; Fries, Va.; Sunnyside, Va.; Max Meadows, Va.; and Crandon, Va. In addition to pastoring, he did evangelistic ministry in West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and a short term in Cuba. Because of his passion for the ministry, he was elected and appointed to many leadership positions: Youth and Sunday School Conference Boards, the Virginia/Appalachian Conference Board for 16 years, and eight years as full-time director of the World Missions/Evangelism Board of the Appalachian Conference.

In addition to pastoring, he also taught in the public school system in Pulaski County, Va., and served as a principal for an elementary school. He had a thirst for learning. In addition to the colleges mentioned above, he attended Florida State University, Concord Teachers College and Radford University. Dallas received a master’s degree in education from Virginia Tech and worked on a doctorate in education from the University of Virginia.

Out of all of his educational and ministerial accomplishments, Dallas will best be remembered as a passionate soul winner and a compassionate, caring person. Thousands are in heaven and on their way to heaven today because of his ministry.

On February 17, 2014, Dallas received the ultimate promotion.

World Missions & EvangelismLarry MeaDors APPALACHIAN CONFERENCE MISSIONS AND EVANGELISM MINISTRIES

4 YEARS OF

This last quadrennium has been busy and eventful in Missions and Evangelism Ministries. The missional vision of GO GIVE GROW has helped to change lives in our conference and around the world.

It has been a joy to serve together with over 60 fellow team members on the conference short-term mission trips. We have traveled thousands of miles to minister in Mozambique, Haiti and Ecuador. Around $40,000 was raised in special project funds to put a roof on a medical clinic, lay block for a new church, conduct a medical clinic, and help birth a new church. This fall a team will travel to Bangladesh. A new school to train pastors will be constructed and a medical clinic will be held. It is always such a blessing to those who GO. Many share that their hearts develop a passion for missions on these trips.

The annual Global Outreach (GO) offerings for this period have raised over $500,000! Thank you to all those who GIVE. Your faithful support is a vital source of funds that transform lives around the world. These gifts make missionary projects and church plants possible in the 100-plus countries where the IPHC has ministry. As a sending community, we face a challenge to raise up new missionaries. We have had 10 conference missionaries come off the fi eld due to retirement, death or reassignment in the past four years. Currently, there are three full-time couples and one full-time missionary on the fi eld who are members of the Appalachian Conference.

Church planting is an exciting way to GROW the kingdom! A couple of stories from these churches: It is inspiring to see Pastor Abel Castro lead his congregation in building a new facility in Harrisonburg, Va. They are already fi lling up this building with over 200 in attendance. Pastor Eric Lockett has seen Freedom Family Worship Center become a church making a difference in Kingsport, Tenn. Last summer, the church missionally invaded their community with ministry to touch lives, called “Engage Kingsport.” Church planting has been challenging in this period

of economic uncertainty, yet our conference is very committed to new churches. Of the 22 churches that were started in the past quadrennium, 12 are active and growing today. These numbers fi t into the national average of new church survival. However, all planting efforts were done as conventional models (except one). Our success rate would dramatically improve if some of our existing churches would mother a daughter church. Churches are also being revitalized. A two-year revitalization program is under way. The 24 to Double program has 13 churches enrolled. Church growth consultant Dr. Owen Weston is meeting monthly with pastors and their leaders.

What a personal blessing it has been to fulfi ll the call of God in this Great Commission ministry these past four years. I also count it a privilege to serve our conference bishop, Preston Mathena, in carrying out ministry across our region. Gloria and I have enjoyed being in many of our churches and sharing this journey together with you. Let us continue to GO GIVE and GROW!

Join the Celebration!Attend the Global Outreach service of Camp Meeting on June 13.

Please bring your Day’s Wage (GO) offering.

What a privilege to work with the IPHC family around the world. In Tapio, Haiti, with Pastor Estima

SARA BALLENGER TO SPEAK AT WIN PRAYER FESTIVALThe special speaker for this year’s Prayer Festival is Sara Ballenger. She is the founder

and president of Capitol Hill Prayer Partners. A network of 24-hour Prayer and Night Watch was built by a woman with a vision to pray for the nation and for Israel. This powerful prayer network prays on-site at Capitol Hill while Congress is in session. Also, 2,000 intercessors are enlisted online to pray both day and night with the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners! A total of 28 Prayer Shields pray under the direction of the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners. The Appalachian Conference is one of these Prayer Shields!

20 YEARS AND STILL GOING – Sara was a homemaker and a teacher when God called her to encourage others to pray for the nation. From the beginning, the Capitol Hill Prayer Partners prayed on-site at the Capitol under the full blessing of the Office of the Chaplain of the United States Senate!

It is the desire of Sara Ballenger to bring the presence and the power of our Lord Jesus Christ into the very halls of Congress. Key scriptures for the Capitol Hill Prayer include the following: 1 Timothy 2:1-4; Job 33:15, 16.

A BLESSING IS WAITING FOR YOU! Please join us at Valley Harvest Ministries on May 10, 2014. We will begin registration at 9 a.m. Pastor Steve Willis is the host pastor.

BASKETBALL GAME NETS CHURCH FOR HONDURAS

It is always great to see men from multiple churches working together to advance the kingdom of God. On March 15 Destiny Outreach Ministries and Crossroads Church teamed up to raise money for a missions project in Honduras. The two churches challenged each other to a benefit basketball game with all proceeds going toward

the construction of a church in Yoro, Honduras. Members of Crossroads Church will be traveling to Honduras in August and constructing the church.

The game was a huge success, with each team having close to 20 players and nearly 150 in attendance. During the event, over $2,000 was raised toward the construction. The highlight of the night was that Missionary Daniel Pitti was in attendance and spoke to the crowd about the need for the church in Honduras. Daniel is the regional director for the Central America region, including Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. He also serves as the superintendent of the Honduran Conference. Now, I know you are asking yourself, “Who won?” Let me tell you, the winner was the city of Yoro, Honduras, which will now have a new church, and Destiny Outreach Ministries by a slim margin.

Pastor Don Byrd reports the addition of eight new members to the Speedwell P.H. Church in February. Pictured left to right are Pastor Don Byrd, Tammy Hale, Tammy Stacy, Ben Hale, Jennifer Hale, Ruby Ratcliff, Faye Hale, Gene Hale and Marcy Hoback. God’s kingdom is growing and we are glad!

The Men’s Ministries of Cool Spring P.H. Church attended Wildfire Weekend at Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University on March 7 and 8. On opening night there were 10,000 men in attendance worshipping God.

The Cool Spring men said they truly enjoyed the Wildfire Weekend. They witnessed several marvelous testimonies of how God has changed individual lives. Well-known celebrities gave their testimonies of how God changed their lives. Many of the celebrities stated that their lives were a total wreck until Jesus changed them, and now they live for Him.

No matter who you are, God is still reaching out to those who believe their lives will be changed for the better. Jesus Christ is still changing people’s lives. This is a challenge of all of our P.H. churches: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15).
