Creative Action: The Arts in Public Health || 2009-2010 Seminar Series of the Center for Public Health Initiatives presents Anna Deavere Smith is an award-winning actress, teacher, and playwright. She has had roles in the films Philadelphia, An American President, The Human Stain, and Rent, and she has worked in television on The Practice, The West Wing, and currently, Nurse Jackie. The founder and director of the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue, she teaches at New York University and lives in New York City. At this event, Smith will discuss and perform select scenes from her latest piece, “Let Me Down Easy.” This highly acclaimed performance, which is composed of a series of monologues based on Smith’s interviews with diverse individuals, focuses on the fragility and resilience of the human body and spirit.
