My fab- rics are stacked to the hilt. Let me quilt, let me quilt, let me quilt!! I don't know about you but winter is always a great time for me to get busy with a new quilting project or two. This year I have lot's of quilt ideas floating through my head. First of all, I've started on a mini-quilt for the auction on May 5 at St. Thomas More Church. Hopefully, you've at least been thinking of what you might make. I plan to invite some friends to the event as I did a couple of years ago. Even my non-quilting friends told me how much they enjoyed see- ing all of the quilts, and have asked when we are holding another auction so that they can come again. Then there's the Discovery Center Quilt Challenge that Carol Pacey shared with us at our January meeting. What a great opportunity to showcase our member's talents! I have some definite ideas as to what I want to make. Now I just need to get them down on paper so that I can start cutting up fabric and working on the real thing. I realize October seems a long way off, but I know myself too well--I need to get started soon if I'm going to have it finished in time. I want to stay up to date with the Block of the Month patterns, too. And of course, I've been working on that baby quilt for our first grandchild due in April. I've been inspired to make so many baby quilts that I'm sure she'll end up with at least two. And what to do about all those other baby quilt pat- terns, I've been looking at? Well, the Quilts from the Heart project can always use another donation. I made time to visit Livie Olsen at Fenceline Fabrics after our January program and am looking forward to our February speaker, Judy Lyon as well. Our guild has so many fun and inspiring activities going on. It takes a lot of volunteers to make any organization a success and KPQG is no exception and I thank all of the members who are volunteering their time as board members and committee chairpersons. There's always a need for more volunteers throughout the year so I invite you to check out a new column in our newsletter "Calling All Volunteers...." to learn about a new op- portunity to be involved in KPQG and to continue to check it out each month. Meanwhile, "Let me quilt, let me quilt, let me quilt!" Betty Frank

President’s Block —

Each year members honor our presi-dent by making her a quilt block, signing it, and presenting it to her . She then makes it into her “President’s Quilt” as a memoir of her year in office.

This year, Betty is making it very easy for us. Instead of choosing a pattern, she is asking us to make it in the pattern of our choice—pieced, paper pieced, applique—whatever you desire.

SIZE: 9 1/2 “ unfinished size

COLORS: Fall Colors (oranges, yel-lows, brown, greens, reds, burgundies, etc).

THANK YOU

Karen Malone

All About Quilts

for all you do for our guild

We appreciate you

Volunteer opportunity for February Have you ever started a new job and felt a bit overwhelmed by all the things you needed to learn? Have you ever moved to a new com-munity or joined a new group and then felt a little lost that you didn't know that many peo-ple yet? If so, then here's your chance to make someone else feel welcome in our guild. We would like start a list of members willing to serve as mentors for the first few months after someone joins Konza Prairie Quilters Guild. The job is easy, just call and remind the new member about upcoming events, explain and answer questions about how the guild works, sit with them at the monthly meeting--in other words, just be a friend! If interested in being a mentor contact the guild's president, Betty Frank to have your name added to the list and she will give you the name of another member who has recently joined the guild.

Preview of the Challenge for 20918

Carol Pacey has once again come up with a wonderful challenge idea. We will have the details in the next newsletter, but you can be thinking about how you would use fabric and your imagination to make a 2 foot by 6 foot banner/quilt that shows something about Kansas

Marvelous Mini Quilts for Foundation Piecing by Ellen Rosintoski. San Marcos CA: American School of Needlework, 1994. 60 p. The Guild’s mini quilt auction is fast approaching and many of us still have quilts to make! This older but still fine book pre-sents a number of pretty mini quilt wall hangings for our consideration. Shown in attractive colors, most of the quilts feature small versions of traditional blocks such as log cabin, pinwheel, snail’s trail, and pineap-ple. The final project is a “Tornado Medal-lion Sampler” challenge. Come by the li-brary at meeting and look at this and other miniature quilt books.
