July 2010 VOICE OF GLORY NEWSLETTER
Dear VOG Alumni
This years newleer is tled VOG Connect and basically
serves to introduce the current VOG commiee to youand to get them to share about their experience and
give you an idea of what VOG is like now.
I saw VOG perform for the rst me in 2006 and I
knew I had found the people I had been looking for.
When I joined, I was one of those people who preferred
to sit at the back and keep quiet, watch everyone inter-
act, pracce, nish pracce and go home. In my second
year at VOG I started opening up and allowing people
into my life and my space. Its then that through the
people at VOG, God started teaching me about worship
and fellowship and I felt so bad because I had missed out
on so much. Through other peoples life stories I started
to see Gods beauty and power. From that I learnt that if
I say I love God, then I need to make myself vulnerable
to Him and allow Him to be God in my life. There is a fa-
mous quote by Clive Lewis which says that friendship is
Andisa Ndlovu, VOG 2010 PRO: Post Graduate Diploma
in Media Management, from Bizana.
born at that moment when one person says to another:
what? You too? I thought was the only one. I found
myself saying this so oen and thats when I realised
that wait a minute, I have friends. People who are not
scared to say you see, now what you are doing Andisais nonsense and you need to x it. People who are not
afraid to be young, crazy and have fun in Christ. People
who do not sugar-coat issues or ptoe around them.
Wow, I have never met a group of people who are so real
with each other.
I nd it funny how theres so much diversity in VOG;
this society has people from totally dierent social, eco-
nomic and cultural backgrounds, but they all speak one
language; GOD. VOG has been growing so much spiritu-
ally and I see this through peoples wring. The standard
of song wring has just been increasing at an alarmingrate, especially this year.
I have never seen people who are so gied and yet
so humble, the humility that these people show reminds
me of Christ himself. Through VOG, I think God is rais-
ing up a generaon of anointed arsts whose passion
is rooted in Christ, who want to achieve nothing but
excellence for Him and champion for His cause. The pas-
sion that these young people have for Christ and music
makes me believe that the South African Gospel Industry
is about to get a run for its money. If you dont believe
me, come see for yourself on the 9th of October at Guy
Buler Theatre.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you
VOG Alumni because truly speaking, this is a manifesta-
on of your prayers and I urge you to keep praying. I
started serving in VOG as Public Relaons Ocer at the
beginning of 2009 and I got re-elected to carry on in
2010 as well. My job basically is to take care of the soci-
etys public image, but this arcle is not about me just
doing my job, its a short tesmony about what I have
seen God do to and through VOG. I hope to see you all in
October.
God bless you and once again; THANK YOU for pavingthe way for us. Carry on loving God forNo eye has
seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what
God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians
2:9).
I couldnt have asked God for a better family

July 2010 VOICE OF GLORY NEWSLETTER July 2010 VOICE OF GLORY NEWSLETTER
Im Miranda Ncwane and I am VOGs treasurer for 2010,
basically I deal with money maers pertaining to the
society. I conduct and coordinate the voices of the
Rand, from the soprano sound of the coins to the husky
sound of the notes. This year our society aims to gener-
ate income with the hope of leaving a good and healthy
amount in the account. This is the vision of the commit-
tee of 2010 as a whole. Moving along ever so swily...
Im also part of the choir, I enjoy singing very much it is
truly a form of expression for me. Singing is something
that reveals my desire and passion for God to God, its
one of my favourite languages I use to speak to Him.
So when I discovered VOG last year aer having been in
Rhodes for weeks, I was overwhelmed with joy I really
couldnt believe it. From then Ive enjoyed fellowship
with my brothers and sisters within the society, I now
refer to VOG as the family. Its become a place, where
my soul is enriched by song and Him. I have grown into
a new chapter of my life, Ive been transformed. And
a melody; the songs that are wrien in VOG bless me
and leave me in awe. I see VOG as a child that is grow-
ing each year, therefore every year this child has been
alive maers. S o speaking and connecng with you the
alumni, is connecng with a part of us.
A soulful new melody
More than just a society
Miranda Ncwane VOG 2010 Treasurer. Second year Bcomm,
from Durban.
Mathaabe Thabane VOG Secretary 2010. Second year BComm,
from Lesotho.
When I took the post as secretary of VOG I was not
really sure what it entailed but I knew that because of
aspects like my organisaon and communicaon skills,
I was up for the challenge. I expected the simple proce-
dures of taking minutes, draing agendas and sending
e-mails. What I did not take into account is that VOG,
unlike most Rhodes sociees, is a family. As the secretary
I deal with all the administrave issues of the society i.e.
announce meengs and society events, be present at
every meeng, take minutes and plan the agenda for the
next week. Moreover, it is my job to liaise between the
members of the society and the commiee. However,
beyond the dues of my work, I can rmly say that I have
grown as a person and in spirit. I have learnt a lot from
fellow commiee members as well other memebers of
the society. I have discovered things about myself and
others that I never considered before. I am thankful to be
able to work with a happy and commied group of peo-
ple and even though we all have our porolios, we each
end up doing a lile bit of each other's job somewhere
along the line. This year has been fruiul yet I believe
there is sll more we can do as leaders of the society and
I look forward to what is le of it and to the year ahead.
My name is Lungile Precious Nontobeko Fatyela and I
am the sing president for 2010. I must say I am unable
to acquaint myself with the tle because VoG existed
to me only in my dreams and never did I think I would
nd it, let alone be its president. In my matric year my
high school SCO teacher asked what Im going to do at
Rhodes, i told her of my thoughts about people, many
young people and giving praise to God with song and
having great fun. In my head many people grew closer
to God and joined this group of young people, that I
was a part of me, lile did I know that my thought/vi-
sion would become so real. This thought/vision brought
me great comfort and even though I had never seen it,
it became something I held onto, the thought of nding
people who loved God and praised Him the only way Iknew how, through song.
Upon my arrival at Rhodes University in 2008, I joined
VOG and immediately fell in love with it, parcularly
aer our rst camp. What was it about VOG? I deeply
loved how those whom I found were so expressive about
their love for The Creator and though they stemmed
from dierent contexts, forests and gardens, they were
all unied by their growth from the sun, Our Creator. The
freedom of being fully human and young whilst being
able to laugh, joke and tease one another, I found was
amazing. It was full of a joyous churchy ambiance that
was not restricted to protocol yet complete in its compo-
nents of fellowship.
I was deeply moved by the
fullness of life I found. VOG has
been a source of such growth,
I walked into a family a home
that wished to grow me met
mothers, fathers brother and
fellow Chrisans whose walk
with God grew to heights i
never imagined. They werent
perfect they were fully human
and they had decided to take
the road not taken and thats
how I related to them
I hope you all enjoy this news-
leer.I hope you see how much
all have ploughed. How your
contribuons and prayers at
whatever point in the road, got
us this far. My heart trembles
with joy at the sight I have
before me, a VOG for God, by
Chrisans. I am ever humbled
and honoured to be at the
helm of such. May we all grow
in His Love and as the song
writer said and trust in his redeem-
ing blood and try His works to do.

needed or where she is not available to perform her
execuve funcons i.e. whether it be aending events,
social meengs or being a representave of the societywhere she may not be able to represent; to also assist
in carrying out funcons within the society that may not
have an executor at me required.
The Vice is also the community engagement rep in
the society, in the current year this oce has not been
as acve but under construcon in the sense that we
aim to engage the community in presenng Ministry
through the arts and in doing so we are interacng with
a group called GenX which is a dance, drama and poetry
group from the community and they are engaging with
our dance, drama and poetry group where they will
aend a social gathering on a Saturday Evening and re-
hearsals, the whole society also aends their events e.g.
Concerts and perform a few items. In all we do as VOG, I
personally believe we aim for excellence.

I grew up with the idea that as I spent more me doing the
things God has called me to do, or maybe praying more and
seeking His face more, I would, naturally, mature. Maturity in
the sense that I would grow in the spirit, and the only anal-
ogy I had in my mind was my physical growth, where I grow
and become older and more independent of my sources,
in my case, my parents, and teachers and so on. Recently
though I have come to know and understand that with God
it is dierent, when you grow in whatever it is that is of God,
you increase your dependence on him. So if you conquer a
mountain that had been in your way, you dont gain resist-
ance per say, but you gain dependence, and dependence on
God.
VOG Choir acvies have been like that so far this year,as we move more and more into the year, and as we achieve
our goals that we set in the beginning of the year, we realise
now that this is when we need God the most. Our tesmo-
nies for the year though, give us the condence to know that
Lord you have brought us this far, we know you wont leave
us now.
Some of the acvies we took part in this year include
GOSPEL AFRICA, a programme in the Naonal Arts Fesval
that looks to bringing Gospel Music to the Arts fesval and
also allow up and coming choirs and arsts from the most
rural parts of Eastern Cape to have a chance to experience
performing in the Arts Fest. This year we were blessed to be
the Anchor Choir for the Event and the Guest arsts included
Ntokozo Mbambo of Joyous Celebraon, Nqubeko Mbatha of
Joyous Celebraon, Johan Mthethwa renowned Jazz Pianist
also has featured on Joyous Celebraon and Audrey Mbuyazi
a Zimbabwe born Gospel arst. We had development choirs
from Adelaide, Peddie, King Williams Town and others.
We are currently in preparaon for the nal concert, on
the 9th of October 2010, at the Guy Butler Theatre in the
1820 Selers Monument, Grahamstown. This will be a live
CD and DVD recording, and although you can expect formalinvites within the next week, Ill jump the gun and let you
know, we are expecng you all.

I urge you, rst of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to
help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for
them (1 Timothy 2:1). God has called us and appointed
us to intercede and pray for everyone, and not just our-
selves. VOGs prayer room is geared towards praying for
our campus, the world we live in, our families, the salva-
on of souls, our musical, dance and drama ministries
and everything which requires prayer.
The prayer meengs have grown at an astounding
rate and many VOG members are answering the great
commission of prayer. The prayer meengs have pro-
duced results, through Gods grace, through the healing
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation;
continuing instant in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
of people and deliverance of many bondages of the devil.
There was also a team building exercise during the year
and this was to try and unite the VOG members and to
build a family atmosphere in the society. There was also
a small bring and share for the VOG prayer and interces-
sion desk, this was to celebrate the birth of intercession
and prayer in the society.
As the VOG prayer desk, we just thank God for hon-
ouring us and bestowing upon us the presgious privi-
lege of praying for the music, dance and drama depart-
ment, because this is our way of preaching the gospel
of Christ. Even though the devil might try to hinder us in
our ministry we will connue to pray and preach, as Paul
writes in 2 Timothy 4: 2 Preach the word of God. Be
prepared, whether the me is favorable or not.
Our upcoming events include prayer for the Mission
week, happening from the 10th to 18th September,
and we thank God for allowing us to be involved in this
harvest of the many souls coming to Christ Jesus. We
are also praying for our own upcoming VOG worship
week, this is where will be taught more about worship
and how to experience a deeper and fruiul relaonship
with Christ. We also will be praying for the nal concert,
where we expect God to heal the sick, save the lost and
give life to the dying, by them simply listening to the
Word being preached through music.

The road I have travelled with VOG has been a thor-
oughly fruiul one. I joined Voice of Glory in my secondyear at Rhodes aer having fallen head over heels in love
with the mission that they are part of. Being a member
of the society has brought me more joy than I could have
ever thought possible. As a member of the choir I expe-
rienced the kind of joy that can only be found in mes of
true worship. In my me as a member of the commiee
I have watched as the societys steps were made rmer.
As Alumni Liaison, my job entails being the mouth-
piece of the current society members and informing
those that have le the university and carried on, but
remain part of the family, of what is happening within
the society. Voice of Glory is more than just a society. It
is a family, and unlike sociees, with family no maer
where you are it is your job to ensure. The porolio of
alumni is a new one and I feel that I was unable to carry
out my dues
eecvely as a
result of poor
communicaonand me-man-
agement.
I would
however lie to
suggest that
whoever is to
take the
porolio in the
future be a vet-
eran member,
i.e. one who
has been a
member of the
society for more than just one year, as they usually have
beer access to the alumni family.
