AED (Automated External Defibrillator) As published in last week’s bulletin, Spirit of Life has an AED mounted on the east wall as you enter the Activity Center from the passageway. Please take a moment to locate where our AED is mounted.

Below is basic information on Using the AED: (More detailed instruction is located by the AED)

-If you see a person suddenly collapse and pass out, or if you find a person already unconscious, confirm that the person can't respond.

-Call 9–1–1 or have someone else call 9–1–1. If two rescuers are present, one can provide CPR while the other calls 9–1–1 and gets the AED. -Check the person's breathing and pulse. If breathing and pulse are absent or irregular, prepare to use the AED as soon as possible. SCA, (sudden cardiac arrest), causes death if it's not treated within minutes. -Turn on the AED's power. The device will give you step-by-step instructions. You'll hear voice prompts and see prompts on a screen. -Expose the person's chest and if it is wet, dry it. -Remove metal necklaces and underwire bras. You can cut the center of the bra and pull it away from the skin. -If the person has implanted medical devices or body pierc-ings, apply the defibrillator pads at least 1 inch away from implanted devices or piercings so the electric current can flow freely between the pads. -Check that the wires from the electrodes are connected to the AED. Make sure no one is touching the person, and then press the AED's "analyze" button. Stay clear while the ma-chine checks the person's heart rhythm. -If a shock is needed, the AED will let you know when to de-liver it. Stand clear of the person and make sure others are clear before you push the AED's "shock" button. -Start or resume CPR until emergency medical help arrives or until the person begins to move.

Food Pantry/Outreach News Still in need of volunteers. If you are looking for a rewarding, ministry in which to become involved in during the summer months, the Outreach Food Pantry is a great area to volun-teer. Some of the ways in which to participate in this ministry include: donating of financial resources, food, toiletries, household items, beds, and or furniture; volunteering time during our pantry hours by just being available to those who come in, and or filling and distributing the boxes of food; help is needed to unload the trucks and pack the shelves as the food is delivered; or volunteer by helping pick up donated furniture and distribute to the homes of those in need. If you are interested, please call the parish office. Again heartfelt thanks to all of you who help support this ministry in any way without you we couldn’t accomplish this ministry. Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness. Jackie
