November 19, 2015 Dear OLL Families, Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, which means that our Grandparents and Special Guest Day is too! Our Grandparents and Special Guest Day is next Wednesday, November 25. We will begin the day with Mass to- gether at 8:15. After Mass, I will say a few words to the grandparents and guests, and then they will be invited to visit the school with their grandchildren. There will be food and refreshments in the gym. Our Student Council will be taking pictures of the grandparents/guests with their grandchildren. We will have prints made and sent home with the students on a later date. Also, the students will have the opportunity to give their grandparents a tour of the building and classrooms, meet the teachers, and visit the school Book Fair in the parish center. Grandparents Day concludes at 11:00. Our students may leave with their grandparents at this time if we have the signed permission slip. Dismissal for our remaining students will take place at 12:00. Please remember that students will need to bring lunches from home on this day because the cafeteria will be closed. I look forward to seeing all of our grandparents and special guests on Wednesday! Our Book Fair began this week on Wednesday and concludes on Grandparents Day. The Book Fair is set up in the parish center. Each homeroom was assigned a time to visit the Book Fair so the students can shop. These times have been communicated to you in the classroom teacher’s newsletter. Please be careful when sending money in with your children. You may want to consider sending it in a bag or envelope with your child’s name written on it. Thank you for supporting the Book Fair. The proceeds go toward the purchase of new books for classroom libraries and our main school library. By the way, if you see my tie getting shorter and shorter, it’s because for every 100 books sold, the student who makes the purchase will get to snip off a section of my tie. The shorter my tie, the better our sales! The dollar dress day this Friday, November 20 is for the Suppiger family. As many of you know, Kurt Suppiger, the father of JoJo in 8th grade, was in a car accident this summer that left him paralyzed from the chest down. As the Suppigers adjust to life with Kurt in this condition, they have realized that their home is not as wheelchair accessible as it needs to be. The family is in the process of planning necessary home renovations, and the school would like to help with the costs of making them happen. Please consider sending a dollar or more on Friday, and thank you for your continued prayers for Kurt, Anita, Mercer, and JoJo. Thank you to those who logged into the Indiana Parent Network last week to view your child’s ISTEP scores. I know some of you did request a rescore if your child was on the borderline of Pass or Pass+. Our school re- sults are considered preliminary at this point, but we will likely experience a schoolwide drop in the percentage of our students that passed. This drop was predicted and occurring in schools statewide based on where the cut scores were set, the increased difficulty of the test, and the new standards. I will keep you posted on the final results when they are available. Finally, please keep our Music Teacher, Ms. Murrell, in your prayers. She has been hospitalized with pneumo- nia. She is getting better each day and we look forward to seeing her back soon.
