AUSKICK MOTHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Another great day of weather for the Mothers Day Auskick Round. Great to see all the Mum’s joining in and pitting their skills against their offspring! Well Done to all.

Congrats to Lachie Parkinson on his first game for the club,

A special thanks to Michael & Alicia Mann for swapping games and allowing us to play our first

game at Home (appreciated by all concerned)

All the boys should be very proud of their efforts on Sunday considering the gale force winds &

golf ball size hail stones they had to contend with. (lucky they wear helmets)

The talk around the packs, the tackling, the shepherding and the discipline was fantastic.

Well Done boys!

UNDER 9 (Gold) Whittlesea Gold v Epping

UNDER 9 (Blue) Whittlesea Blue v Keon Park

What a fantastic TEAM effort. It was pleasing to see the skills learned and practiCed at training

put into action. Our hard work and enthusiasm paid off. The teamwork and effort put into

helping out team mates was excellent. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations to Sebastian Vingta for playing his first game. Congratulations also to Max, Regan and Jack for kicking their first goal and to Oscar for kicking his second goal for the season.

A special mention to Will for his near miss.

Thank you to all of the parents for your co-operation and understanding when our game details

were changed with short notice. See you all at training on Friday. Go Eagles!!

UNDER 10 Whittlesea 5.11. 41 def Epping 0.2. 2

“Its not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog that counts”….& that’s

what we showed them this week, total domination of what we have been practicing so far this

year & like I said, chins up..we’re not far away…

Well after the display we witnessed on the weekend I think its fair to say we have arrived. We ran together, we put our head over the ball & tackled the best I have seen any side tackle this

year. Again, our defensive pressure will be our main focus this year but judging by the way we

went about it this week, I think we tick that box & start concentrating on our offensive attack!

Epping came out & were never in the contest, they tried to rattle us with rough tactics but to our credit we rose above that rubbish & stuck to playing the ball & clearly it paid off. Well done boys

you made me & all of your parents very proud…keep the spirit alive…

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 5

Great to see we had nearly everyone back again this week & the weather was perfect for it once

again. All the kids seem to be having a ball the fresh coffee sure seems to be a hit with the

spectators.

Thanks again to all our helpers old & new, you do a fantastic job. We hope all the mums had a great weekend & a special thanks to our scone maker……(check with Mick Bland)………., the jam

& cream helpers on the day really made them sing!

There will be a free sausage sizzle for all once again, this week with Reece Plumbing Centre Whittlesea on board again this year providing the snags. So come on down & bring the family.

All siblings are welcome to join in so jump in & get amongst the action, you’ll love it…

Best Players: Grade 2’s & of course their Mums in the Mums V Kids game

Goal Kickers: Leanne Bland & her scone brigade, The Weather Gods…once again!!!

UNDER 11 (Blue) Whittlesea 13.5. 83 def. West Preston 3.0. 18

We travelled to West Preston on a wet, windy day. This week we were missing Brayden who has

been a real strength in the team this year.

The boys started the game with a great attitude, sharing the ball around, playing in front and attacking hard. In the second and third quarter the team switched off, forgot the team rules, and didn't play for each other. After a 3 quarter time reminder of what our team is about, the boys

came out and finished the game on a strong note, as a team.

We still have a heap of work to do at training to improve our skills and put together 4 quarters of

footy.

Best Players: ALL THE MUMS WHO TURNED UP!

Well it’s taken some weeks but the boys got a great result for all of our hard work over the last

month, Playing team football. Before the game we congratulated Aidan Rizzotto on 50 games,

“Shifty” Amos playing his first ever game with Whittlesea and our Captain back, Billy Goodwin.

The mood in the room was the best it’s been all year. Had a fantastic umpire who spoke to the boys before the game and umpired a great game both ways, looking after both teams. As I said

after the game, this year now is in our hands, and this is how we want to play it. Keep training well, stick together as a team and you will go places. Epping this week away, another tough

game but I know we are all up to it. What can’t these boys do!

Would like to thank JBT for sponsoring the team this year. Thanks to Jeff and Mick for there

assistance at training, Goody for being our runner, Kylie and Adrienne our Team Managers, and

Kaleb for just being Kaleb.

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 5

UNDER 13 Whittlesea 5.2. 32 def. by Greensborough 15.14. 104

We started slowly and finished even slower. After being 3 goals down very quickly we fought

back with help from Joel who was our key forward and Daniel who muscled up strongly to their

big forward, with Kai’s support in backline we stopped the early rush.

We were still in the match at halftime when we were only 14pts down. The second half was a disaster as they totally dominated. We went away from our structures and didn’t work hard

enough. Alex and Tye tried hard and Travis did very well in the ruck. The two Bailey’s and

Nathan ran hard trying to make space but to no avail.

We are starting to do some of the things we have been practising and it looks good but we are going away from the key ingredient in football. Attack on the footy, we are just not attacking the

ball hard enough and until everyone buys into it we will continue to struggle.

Next week is a new game lets start again.

Best Players: Kai Attwell, Daniel Smith, Joel Naylor, Brandy Burgess, Blake Watson, Travis Seager

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 5

Started the game off really well with everyone firing. But after half time we went to sleep and let

West Preston right back into the game.

Some of the real positives were our hardness at the ball and more and more players following

team plans.

Also a huge achievement by Brayds on reaching his 100th game, Brayds is one of the most

courageous players I have seen.

Best Players: Zac, Matty C, Joel, Clancy, Bateman, James G, Connor, Lach, Tiza, Killer

Goal Kickers: Matt C 4, Presti 1, Zac 1

A good win against an opposition with plenty of spirit - we ran the ball with plenty of vengeance

out of the backline. Through the centre on occasions our team work resulted in quite a few

goals. Generally it was a good effort as we controlled the game from half way through the first

quarter. There are a few things we still need to address such as playing through the pockets in

the forward line. The back line was very solid - with all that play through it we still let the

opposition have far too many scoring shots. But overall we are progressing to the next stage.

This weekend we have Wallan and we should still treat them with respect.

Goal Kickers: Jereberk 3,Tyrone 3,Nathan Taylor 3, Joel Clarke 2, Scott Del Rue 1

With only 17 players, then 16 for most of the game, and at one stage 13, we only went down by

11 points.

Marred with injuries for most of the game again, it was a great effort from all of the boys.

You did not give up at any stage and you played with a lot of character and spirit.

Great effort boys.

Club Mascot Report

Oscar Sinel & Liam Newport did a sterling job of getting the Seniors all fired up for their match last Saturday, resulting in them recording their first win of the season against West Preston Lakeside. As you can see by their numbers Liam & Oscar both obviously follow the Mighty Hawks. They really enjoyed the experience and were appreciative of the footys they received from the Seniors.

Next boys to do the honours on Saturday the 26th of May when the Seniors tackle Macleod are Jack & Mitchell Maruff.

Under 9 News

A couple of Under 9 Gold boys volunteered for the bench in the last quarter of

their match to avoid the elements. Smart beyond their years.

Under 9 Blues had a clash of colours with their opponents Keon Park as can be seen in the photo opposite. A few laughs were raised on a couple of occasion when the boys from both teams were observed tackling their own players. 0 and you’ll see what we

mean…..
