The RCN International Strategy 2010-2020: Brazil one of 10 priority countries

Main action points:

all RCN activities must have objectives and plans for int’l cooperation

RCN will promote participation in joint programs across nat’l boundaries

New instrument: financial support for institutional cooperation N-abroad

Refine and strengthen stimulation packages

int’l coop and researcher mobility will be more focused in project review processes

1. Latin America programmeand 2. NorLARNet: NORwegian Latin America Research NETwork

1. Research program to increase knowledge IN Norway

ABOUT Latin America (Brazil now with priority) in five broad thematic areas ( incl. Natural resource management)

2. Network

Events: guest lectures, user seminars, annual conference

The Research Council’s Mobility programme: Yggdrasil

Offers grants to international PhD students and young researchers for temporary stays in Norway

Encompasses some 50 countries, from 2010 also Brazil.

Open to all academic areas of study/ research

The Petromaks programme has given extra funding earmarked for petroleum research/studies

Multilateral level: Projects and Networking through EU

EULANEST (6FP): European-Latin American Network for Science and Technology (5 E members, incl. N)

Joint call (with Brazil and Argentina) on Rewable energy, 2 of the successful consortia include Brazilian and Norwegian partners (each country financed their partner)

EULARINET (7 FP) European Union- Latin American Research and Innovation Networks ( 7 E and 7 LA members)

Among the goals: to identify mutual research priorities and implement them through specific activites in 7 FP ( SICAs, financed by EU) –www.eularinet.eu

ALCUENET (7 FP) a new INCO net under negotiation

B-N cooperation in ordinary EU calls

Agreements RCN- CNPq?

CNPq and RCN dialogue ongoing, as a follow-up of MoU

CNPq templates received:

Agreement: Development of projects and activities

Work plan: Joint financing of projects, through joint calls on topics mutually agreed upon

Petroleum related topics seem particularly relevant ( several seminars in Rio in 2011) but also renewable energy and other topics to be discussed during this visit.
