MOTHERS DAY
May 12, 2019
Mother's Day is celebrated
annually as a tribute to all
mothers and motherhood.
You can celebrate your mother
on this special day for being the
one that gave birth to you and
raised you throughout the years.
Also, a mother can be someone
in your life that has guided you,
mentored you or just loved you.
Contact that special woman in
your life that has been there for
you through thick and thin!

Armed Forces Day
May 18, 2019
“A holiday in honor of all branches of the Armed Forces”
JESUS ROCKS Ministry continues to meet at the Boys and Girls Club,
usually the last Friday of the month. Volunteers from 14 different
churches have been involved in one way or another. Praise God, we have
seen 65 salvation decisions this past year!
There are several upcoming opportunities that you are invited
to join God at work in:
1. JESUS ROCKS Mission VBS at the Boys and Girls Club—
Wednesday, June 5-Friday, June 7
We are excited that Pastor Tom Alderman and the Metter FBC
Worship Team will again lead the large groups worship. After the
large group worship the 300+ kids will break into 8 grade level
classes for Bible study, snack, craft, and games.
2. A Mission Team of 30-40 teens and adults from a sister church in the
Dublin area will be coming to stay at Eastern Heights Baptist Church
and lead a second, different JESUS ROCKS Mission VBS on
Wednesday, July 10 through Friday, July 12 in the afternoon. They
will be doing mission projects around town to show God’s love
Thursday, July 11th, and Friday, July 12th, in the morning. Do you
know someone elderly or disabled that is in need of yard
work painting, etc? Do you know of another need? Please
let Tracey know!
3. While the Mission Team is in Statesboro July 11th-12th, if any
individuals/group/business would like to provide breakfast or lunch
for them, that is another great opportunity to show God’s Love to
them as they reach out into our community.
Please contact Tracey Radney at 912-690-6561 if you are
interested in serving in any of the above ways.

Ogeechee Missions
Visionary GREETINGS FROM OUR MISSIONARY
May is Associational Missions emphasis month. As your Associational Missionary I have been
asked on several occasions, “What is the association?” OR “What is it that you do as an Associ-
ational Missionary?” My response has been to say, “The Ogeechee River Baptist Association is
the first level of cooperative ministry beyond the local church. The mission of the association is
to help the local church fulfill the Great Commission.” As for what I do as Associational Mis-
sionary, I typically say, “I assist our churches by: working with church leaders to help them plan
and develop ministries; helping churches connect with state missionaries who can assist them
with training, counsel or information they need; being a pastor for our pastors and ministers;
working with our associational ministry staff (paid and volunteer) to see we are caring out our
work in a way that we are effective in ministering for Jesus.” I want to thank you and your
church for your prayers and financial support of our local cooperative ministry!
Lynn Carver resigned as our ORBA Senior Adult Ministry leader a few months ago in order to
care for her aunt who had broken her hip. Lynn served faithfully for many years, and we appreci-
ate all she did for our seniors. Martha Wilson from Emit Grove has felt led of the Lord to serve
as our Senior Adult Ministry leader. We are grateful she followed His leading and look forward
to her ministry among our seniors. Due to the limited time to try to put together a Spring Sr.
Adult meeting, we will not have one this year, but Martha has already begun to work on our fall
gathering. It is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at Emit Grove.
I hope your church already has plans for various ministry activities this summer. VBS, mission
trips, summer camps are all great opportunities to share the love and Gospel of Jesus with others.
Serving alongside you,
Greg Abercrombie

NEWS FROM OUR CHURCHES
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER MAY 2, 2019
The National Day of Prayer
belongs to all Americans. It
is a day that transcends
differences, bringing to-
gether citizens from all
backgrounds.
Mrs. Shirley Dobson, NDP
chairperson emeritus, re-
minds us “We have lost
many of our freedoms in
America, because we have
been asleep. I feel if we do
not become involved and
support the annual Nation-
al Day of Prayer, we could
end up forfeiting this free-
dom, too.”
Statesboro will be hosting
an observance of the Na-
tional Day of Prayer on May
2nd at the courthouse in
Statesboro. It will begin at
noon., with a public reading
of the New Testament be-
ginning at 8:30 am. After a
2-hour break from 11 am—1
pm, Bible reading will re-
sume and continue until 10
pm. The reading will pick
back up on Friday, May 3rd,
beginning at 8:30 am and
lasting until 4:30 pm.
ASSOCIATIONAL MISSIONS WEEK
2
May 19-26 is Associational Missions Week, which is a time set
aside to pray for the ministers and churches of the Association and special
ministries. The name chosen for our Special Offering is “The Page Week of
Prayer for Associational Missions – Missions at Home,” in honor of our
first Director of Missions, Ted Page, and his wife, Sue, who has worked
with missions for many years.
We have not set a specific offering goal this year, but we encourage
you to give. You may designate how your gift may be used, or you may
choose to allow the Executive Council to allocate it toward the greatest
needs at the time. In past years it has been designated to worthy causes
such as our children’s camps, WW Mann Center, CSM and the association
itself (and others).
Thank you for your prayers and support as we attempt to be
creative in reaching our community and beyond for Christ.
