NOTICE OF RACE

“VIRTUAL SAILING WORLD & NATS CHAMPIONSHIP 2017” (‘the Event’) is a virtual fleet-race championship that will take place on SailX.com over five weeks. The Event will conclude with a single regatta – the Grand Final. A final ranking will be produced for individuals, countries and clubs.

1.0 RULES & UMPIRING

1.1 The races will be governed by the current ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (ISAF RRS) and SailX SIs (Sailing Instructions).

1.2 The races will be umpired by SailX automatic Rules Engine and the standard SailX protest procedure will be followed as outlined in the Sailing Instructions. The Grand Final will also be overseen by real-life umpires.

2.0 BOATS

2.1 This event will be raced in the following five SailX boat types: • Single-handed hiking dinghy (modelled on Laser) • Catamaran (modelled on non-foiling AC45) • Skiff (modelled on Viper 640) • Bigboat (modelled on AC32 monohull) • Teamboat (modelled on 420)

Note: Each SailX boat type has been designed to stress a different aspect of inshore sailboat racing – they are not exact replicas of any boat.

2.2 In any one regatta the boat type in each race will be as follows: • Race 1: Laser • Race 2: Cat • Race 3: Skiff • Race 4: Bigboat • Race 5: Teamboat

3.0 ENTRY

3.1 Individual entry will be free and automatic (i.e. no entry form submission required).

3.2 Individuals will have the option to enter their country of nationality and club in their User Profile. This information will be used to generate Country and Club rankings.

4.0 FORMAT AND SCHEDULE OF RACES 4.1The ‘World’ event will be run in three Rounds plus a Grand Final – on dates as outlined on the front page of this document.

4.2 In each Round, 6 x 5-race Regattas will be raced every day** as follows: •0400 GMT in field San Francisco •1000 GMT in field San Francisco •1200 GMT in field San Francisco •1800 GMT in field Weymouth •2000 GMT in field Weymouth •2359 GMT in field San Francisco 4.3 The Grand Final will consist of a single 5-race regatta that will start at 2000 GMT on the day in question. 4.4 National championships for every country will be run during the period (April 17th to May 14th) according to the decisions taken in SailX Forum. If no event is agreed/run for a country the individual classification before the Grand Final of World championship will be used. 5.0 RANKING 5.1 Individual Ranking: Any eligible individual completing a race in the Event will automatically be ranked in accordance with the following:

• An individual’s regatta score will be based on their best 4 races in that regatta (i.e. one discard) • An individual’s Round ranking will based on the sum of the individual’s best-three regatta results during that

Round (users may race as many regattas as they like) • Until Round 3 concludes, an individual’s overall ranking will be based on the weighted-sum of their Round

ranking scores to that date, with a weighing of 1.0 applied to Round 1, a weighting of 2.0 applied to Round 2 and a weighting of 5.0 applied to Round 3.

• On conclusion of Round 3 the Top-45 overall ranked individuals will be invited to take part in the Grand Final subject to the possibility that the final fleet may be limited to 30 boats before the start of the first race, in line with competitor ranking on conclusion of Round 3.

• On completion of the Grand Final, the final overall individual ranking will consist firstly of those who took part in the Grand Final (ranked in accordance with their results of the Grand Final) and then the remainder, ranked in accordance with the weighted sum of their Round scores.

• Individuals who were eligible to race in the Grand Final but who do not take part, shall be ranked after all individuals who took part in the Grand Final and in accordance with their overall ranking on conclusion of Round 3. 5.2 Country and Club Ranking: Countries and clubs with more than 4 individuals ranked in the Event will automatically be ranked in accordance with the following:

• Country rankings will be based on the sum of the individual overall scores of the top-20 ranked sailors associated with that country.

• Club rankings will be based on the sum of the individual overall scores of the top-10 ranked sailors associated with that club. 5.3 NATs Ranking: Countries having a specific NAT event will generate a NAT ranking using that single event. Countries with no specific NAT event and with 5 or more sailors ranked in the top 50% fo the World event ranking will generate a NAT ranking using the positons before the Grand Final

6.0 COURSE Courses will be the standard SailX courses for fleets and in all cases will be announced by the notification system during the prestart period of each race. 7.0 SCORING The standard ISAF low-scoring system will be used to determine the results of all races and individual regattas in the Event. “SailX Event” scoring will be used to determine the qualification ranking using the following formula: SailX Event scoring for a sailor = (total number of boat finishes in the regatta / [position of the sailor in the regatta]) -1 8.0 PRIZES The winner of the Grand Final will become the “2017 Virtual Sailing World Champion”. Winners of every valid NAT Championship will become “2017 NAT Champion”. 9.0 IMPACT ON SAILX WTS SCORING AND SAILX TROPHIES For the purpose of WTS and EVT points calculation (used to establish SailX Ranking), all regattas in Stage 1 will be assigned a coefficient of 2; all regattas in Stage 2 and 3 will be assigned a coefficient of 3 (winner gets a bronze trophy); and the Grand-Final will be assigned a Coefficient of 5 with special trophy allocation as below. • A SailX diamond trophy will be awarded to the overall winner. • SailX gold trophies will be awarded to those individuals winning NATs • SailX gold trophies will be awarded to those individuals finishing 2nd and 3rd and • SailX silver trophies will be awarded to those finishing 4th to 10th inclusive.
