A Note from the Principal
Dr. Nethaji S. Ganesan
Chief Faculty Advisor, SAE – DSCE
Principal, Dayananda Sagar College of
Engineering
DAYANANDA SAGAR INSTITUTIONS was
founded during 1964 by the great
visionary late R. Dayananda Sagar whose
vision was to provide education for all.
He took up this assignment after making
great personal sacrifices. Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, a flagship institution is today
perhaps the largest Engineering School in the country with 16 Undergraduate courses, 16
Postgraduate courses and 12 Research Centres with a student population of about 6000 on the
campus.
The Institution boasts of excellent infrastructure, high‐tech classrooms, well qualified faculty with
more than 50 of them having Doctorate Degrees from reputed organizations. The DSCE encourages
students to have more and more of academician‐industrial interactions. IBM Centre of Excellence,
Infosys Campus Connect, Wipro Mission 10X, Student Chapter of Society of Automotive Engineers,
Student Chapter of Computer Society of India, Student Chapter of IEEE are some of the initiatives
taken up by DSCE with active participation of students.
It is very heartening to note that SAE INDIA will be conducting Virtual BAJA 2011 on 19th & 20th
August 2011 at the DSI Campus. 244 teams from all over the country will be participating to highlight
their BAJA project. DSCE is honored to host this event.
The Students Chapter of SAE INDIA on the DSCE Campus is very active and has a whopping number
of members, which is more than 400. They meet regularly and conduct programmes such as
Quizzes, Technical Talks, Industrial Visits and Career Counseling Sessions. The members had an
opportunity to visit renowned industries such as Solar Power Plant at Kolar district put up by KPCL,
world renowned CNC machining plant established by M/s ACE Designers Limited. The students have
also taken up fabrication of an All‐Terrain vehicle.
I would be failing in my duty if I do not mention that it is due to the efforts of DSCE students branch
of SAE INDIA who are responsible for bringing the forthcoming Virtual BAJA 2011 on DSCE Campus. I
wish good participation and good luck to all the colleges who will be making the presentations, and
before I end I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the participants.

Visiting Bangalore
The progressive and modern city of Bangalore is the state capital, being located within India's
Karnataka state. Many things that are considered to be 'taboo' and off‐limits in India have become
acceptable in Bangalore, offering a refreshing and more relaxed atmosphere than other nearby
cities.
Founded at the beginning of the 16th century, Bangalore is often referred to as the country 'Garden
City', due to its high concentration of parks and green spaces.
Bangalore By Air
Bangalore International Airport is 45 km away from Dayananda Sagar Institutions. It costs Rs 700 by
taxi. Pre paid taxi facilities are available in Airport. Also, air‐conditioned Volvo buses connect the
airport to various locations in the city, which shall not cost more than Rs 250. More information for
the same is available on the BIAL website. Bangalore airport is well connected to almost all airports
in India.
Bangalore By Train
Bangalore Majestic (15kms from DSI), Bangalore Cantonment (22kms from DSI)) and Yeshwanthpur
(24 km away from DSI) are the three main stations in Bangalore. Bangalore Majestic is connected to
all major cities in India. Auto‐rickshaws, taxis and city buses are all available from near the stations.
Bangalore By Bus
KSRTC buses connect all cities in the state to Bangalore. Many super deluxe bus services are
available from Bangalore to Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Chennai, Mumbai, Goa and Mysore.
The major bus terminal is the Majestic Bus Terminus, 15kms from DSI. Auto‐rickshaws, taxis and city
buses are all available from near the bus station.
12 www.bajasaeindia.org / www.facebook.com/Baja SAEINDIA
Climate
The climate in Bangalore is strongly affected by its elevated position, being some 950 metres / 3,117
feet above sea level. As a result of this setting, Bangalore is lucky enough to experience favourable
weather throughout the year. The temperatures in August, shall be between 18 C to 27 C. A
jacket/sweater is always advisable for the cold evenings!
Food & Dining
Bangalore is heaven for food lovers. You can taste exotic varieties of dishes ranging from traditional
and heritage food to Chinese and Continental. You can also find incredible variety of sea food in
Bangalore. Rice is the staple food of here with coconut being main ingredient in almost every dish.
Bangalorean food is non greasy with most of the dishes prepared by steaming or roasting. Rice is
generally served with Hulli or Sambhar that is a thick delicious soup with vegetables.
There are a variety of restaurants in Bangalore that will serve you with dishes that are traditional as
well as exotic. You can try simple food at some of the local idli shops. Some of the restaurants may
not serve you with cutlery as Bangaloreans eat with their hands.
