STEPS BEING UNDERTAKEN BY WAEC TO CLAMP DOWN ON ROGUE WEBSITES The Council has for some time now been monitoring the activities of rogue websites in the wake of recent reports of alleged leakage of examination papers. The activities of these websites came to the fore during the conduct of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2016. These rogue websites peddled fake questions presenting them as leaked papers and also in authentic papers which had been compromised after their official release from the Council’s depots. This illegal practice always created an impression of incessant leakage of examination questions. The Council therefore decided to clamp down on the rogue websites. With the information provided by investigative operatives and the assistance of the WAEC Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the key rogue website operators were arrested and initially handed over to the Ministries police for further action. But later, the Council reported the issue to the BNI which took over the case and the suspects. They are currently conducting intensive investigations on them to discover their collaborators and sources. The suspects arrested so far are ten (10) in number and have all confessed to the act. Their details are as follows: 1

The Council wishes to warn that it will vigorously sustain its efforts to flush out these education wreckers and, as such, is taking the fight to their doorsteps and hideouts. This, it will continuously do to protect the credibility of its examinations.

The Council hereby cautions those who intend to patronise the criminal activities of these miscreants that they will not be spared when caught. Meanwhile arrangements are underway for the prosecution of parents, school proprietors and teachers who subscribed to compromised papers through Mr. Luke Dito Dito.

It is our expectation that these actions and far reaching measures being undertaken by the Council would ensure that the 2016 BECE for school candidates is conducted successfully.

The Council wishes to use this opportunity to solicit the support of all stakeholders especially, Supervisors and Invigilators, in ensuring the conduct of a clean examination.

Candidates are advised to desist from engaging in malpractices during the examination since this could lead to the cancellation of their results.

The Council wishes all candidates well and reminds them that they can pass their examination without cheating.

Finally, the Council avails itself of this opportunity to assure the Government and good people of Ghana that it is committed to conducting credible examinations and will stop at nothing in achieving that goal.
