2.2 Description of Agro-climatic Zone & major agro ecological situations (based on soil & topography)

(Sub-humid Southern plain and Aravali hills

This zone covers a geographical area of about 3364.4 thousand hectares spread over Bhilwara, Rajsamand, parts of Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Sirohi districts. The terrain is irregular; the soils are litho-soils at the foot hills in Udaipur and Chittorgarh districts while those away from the hills are old alluviums. The rainfall ranges from 500mm in the west and north-east to about 700 mm in the south-east and above 900 mm in the south-west. The mean daily maximum temperature of Udaipur ranges from 24.2 C in January to 38.6 C in May. Of the total geographical area, nearly 27.4% is under cultivation (net sown). About 43.4% of the net area sown is double cropped. Forests occupy 606.6 thousand hectares, which is 18.0% of the TGA. The rest comprises 23.0% land not available for cultivation, 24.9% other uncultivated land and 6.7% under fallow land (Fig.25). About 50.8% of net area sown is under irrigation against the

state average of 26.4%. Well irrigation is more predominant upto 74.8%, while tanks, canals, tube-wells, and other sources account for 17.9, 4.1, 2.6 and 0.6%, respectively. The principal crops of the zone are maize (33.6%), sorghum (5.0%) groundnut (6.1%), cotton (1.4%), Kharif pulses (6.0%), wheat (22.1%), barley (3.5%), chickpea (4.6%) and rapeseed and mustard (4.4%), sesame (2.9%)

4.2. Cases of large scale adoption (Please furnish detailed information for each case)

• High yielding varieties of Maize (PEHM-2) Gram (GNG469) and Wheat (Raj-4037) were adopted by the farming community at higher level.

• Use of Gypsum in oilseed crops

• Use of Mineral Mixture in Concentrate Mixture

• Infertility clinic at KVK

• Use of Bio-fertilizer at the time of sowing.

• Use of Fuel saving devices.

4.3 Details of impact analysis of KVK activities carried out during the reporting period

• 95 sponsered trainings of almost all the districts were successfully organized during the reporting.

• Department of Animal Husbandry organized training of veterinary officers of the state on Oestrus synchronization. KVK provide practical and training facilities to the department. This will indirectly help the animal rearers of the state. Commisioner Animal Husbandry Government of India visited this training.

• Bio fertilizer is readily available at KVK plant health laboratory.

• Budget is almost fully utilized shows timely completion of activities.

• Manger proves to be a fodder saving device for the farmers of Kherwada cluster.

• Sirohi breed of Goat shows increase in both milk production (30%) and growth rate (60-70%) as compared to lpcal breed.

(a) Administrative

• Policies for all the KVK's should be similiar.

(b) Financial

• Contingencies for soil testing laboratory and computer lab should be provided.

(c) Technical

• Funds for farmer's fair should be allocated.

• Fund allocation for oilseed and other crops/ha. should be increased.

• Extensive training to technical staff in Information Technology to fill gap of

advancement in this field.

• Provide Laptop/Notebook to KVK for smooth working.
