a word from oUr Vice-chancellorNow in its third year, our Alumni Awards program has so far recognised the outstanding achievements of leading Alumni from across our global community.

Victoria University aims to be a great university of the 21st century and central to this is a reputation for being excellent, engaged and accessible. We believe that these qualities are also instilled in our graduates as they make their way in the world.

This award program is recognition of our alumni who embody the spirit of Victoria University, have demonstrated behaviours that exemplify excellence, engagement and who have excelled in all spheres of society. To date this includes world class athletes, local and international business leaders, philanthropists, politicians, performing artists and musicians.

This preeminent award recognises the recipient’s exceptional contribution to a chosen field of endeavour, and their pursuit of excellence in everything they do.

To be eligible for this award the recipient must be a graduate of Victoria University or one of our predecessor institutions. Only one Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented each year. This award may recognise the nominee’s professional or creative career, or their community-related or volunteer work.

Kim says one of his biggest honours outside of being appointed State Treasurer and Minister for Police and Emergency Services Minister for Bushfire Response, was being presented with Victoria University’s Distinguished Alumni Award at the inaugural Alumni Awards in 2011:

yoUng achieVer alUmni award

This award recognises Alumni aged 35 or younger who have demonstrated significant achievements early in their career or chosen field of endeavour.

The Young Achiever Alumni Award is open to Alumni aged 35 years or younger at the time of the close of nominations (26 June 2013). This award will only be given to a graduate of Victoria University or one of our predecessor institutions. No more than two Young Achiever Alumni Awards will be awarded each year.

oUtstanding alUmni serVice award

The recipient of this award will have offered exceptional service to their local community or the Victoria University, Alumni or student community. The award recognises the recipient as a lifetime friend of the University.

Previously known as the Honorary Lifetime Alumni Service Award, the Outstanding Alumni Service Award will be awarded to one member of the Alumni Community (including graduates, staff or industry partners) each year. Usually one Outstanding Alumni Service Award will be offered each year.

This award will be presented to a current student who has demonstrated outstanding qualities in one or more of the following: student leadership, academic success, business initiatives, volunteer or community related work or extracurricular pursuits.

The Outstanding Student Alumni Award will only be given to a current (2013) enrolled student of Victoria University. The Outstanding Student Alumni Award will be awarded each year to no more than two students.

WHo can be noMinateD?The Awards are open to all Alumni who meet at least one or more of the criteria for that award. The Outstanding Alumni Service Award is open to Alumni, staff and industry partners. The Outstanding Student Alumni Award is open to students enrolled in 2013 at Victoria University.

WHo can Make a noMination?Any member of the Victoria University community including, Alumni, staff, students, industry and community partners and friends of the University may nominate an individual for a Victoria University Alumni Award.

HoW anD WHen are noMinationS aSSeSSeD?The Award Selection Panel is made up of members from the University and the Alumni Community. The Award Selection Panel’s recommendations will be forwarded to the Vice-Chancellor for consideration and endorsement.

The Award Selection Panel will consider nominations based on the criteria outlined for each award. The nominations will be assessed between 1 July and 31 July 2013.

All decisions made by the Award Selection Panel and endorsed by the Vice-Chancellor are final. Submitting this nomination does not automatically mean that the nominee will be selected for an award. The Award Selection Panel may choose to roll over a nomination from a previous year for consideration.

category in any one calendar year.

• Nominees must approve their nomination.

• Nominations must be received by 5pm (AEST) on the closing date Wednesday 26 June 2013.
