47th National 2016 Bug-In Friday 25th to Monday 28th March



Hi Club Members and Readers

Hi All and welcome to another edition of ViaWest. I have been away on holiday for the best

part of last month. I went to Myanmar formally Burma. During this trip I was eagerly looking out

for Volkswagens I saw two! The preferred cars there are Toyotas. Other than that it was a great trip. I went to the New city where there is a 20 lane road. Lets say it gets under used as I only saw 30 cars on it in the short time I was standing in the middle of it. Perhaps our transport minister can push for a wider free-

way over here.

Back to WA stuff. The Whiteman Park Classic car show was a great success we had a lovely display of 25

Classic VWs and along with our grand club tent we looked the part and filled our allocated area. Thanks to

the CMC for getting the show together again. We know what is involved in organizing an event of this size

and it can be challenging. Even tougher for them when the major sponsor pulled its funding. Such a shame,

as the profits go towards the motor museum.

As mentioned is my previous Presidents Spot, there will be a photography night for club members. The date

for this informal event is Thursday 6th June (the night after the next Alfreds) Bring your DSLR camera and if

you have one, a tripod. Itll be a fun night in the dark. With luck well get some beautiful shots for the maga-zine next month. More info on page 23 of this edition.

are plenty of things happening.

We are nearing the end of another financial year so put some dollars in your budget for your club membership

and merchandise for next year. If you know anyone that is wanting to join the club, they can join early we

wont penalize them so they can join now for next year.

Ending on a very sad note, three members of the club have lost their Kombis to fires. One was mechanical,

another a shed fire, but the third was Theft! Stella Fazari lost her beloved Kombi. It was stolen and found

burned out! Some people in society just dont understand our relationships with our loved cars/Kombis. Not only are they stealing, they are killing when they do these terrible acts of vandalism, its heart breaking. I

was personally cut up when I heard about these about these losses - my heart goes out to you all.

or appeals either directly from the

club funds or by assisting the

charity or appeal in their goal to

publicise their fundraising.

In the past, the Club has support-

ed the Kids Cancer Support

Group, from ward 3b at Princess

Margaret Hospital and also the

Toodyay Bushfire Appeal. In

2012/13 it was Telethon.

The Club commenced supporting

the DuchenneFoundation Aus-

tralia in 2013/14 and will do so

again in 2014/15.

Duchenne Foundation's MISSION

Using National and international

collaboration to improve the qual-

ity and quantity of life for those

living with Duchenne and Becker

muscular dystrophy and their

families, through research, edu-

cation and advocacy.

The Albany Classic Motor Event is

run through the heart of Albany's

CBD, overlooking the ANZAC Peace

Park and Princess Royal Harbour.

This spectacle of historic motor

sport presents a wide variety of

cars from vintage wire wheels, post

-vintage and classics as well as

open wheel racers and big cube

muscle cars.

In 2013 there were more than 150

entrants including a 1926 Salmson

GSS with its 1.1 litre engine and a

1968 Chevrolet Camaro of over 5.8

litres. Many of the cars competing

were created in the earliest days of

Australian motorsport including

specials from Miller, Bartlett and

Brax. In the other categories you'll

see GT40, Lotus, Mustang, Elfin,

Jaguar, Porsche, Bolwell, Simca,

Lola and many more.

Albany first experienced motor rac-

ing in 1936 with the 'WA 50 Mile

T.T. Car Race'. This was the first

round the houses style race in Aus-

tralia and was run over a 4 mile

circuit through the town. The mod-

ern layout follows part of the re-

vised 1938 Grand Prix circuit and is

1.5 km in length overlooking the

picturesque Princess Royal Har-

bour.

The Albany Classic is the premier

round the houses historic regularity

event in Australia and is one of

only two events of its type still go-

the City of Perth in their Innovation Month. The movie was on the big screen in Northbridge - it was free and
