Vestry Minutes At the vestry’s May 30, 2017 meeting: Former senior warden Lane Heard made a presentation regarding reinvigoration of the Iona Society, the parish’s planned giving initiative, and establishment of an endowment that would contribute to St. Columba’s long-term fiscal health. The vestry expressed support for both initiatives and enthusiastically endorsed the building of an endowment. COO Paul Barkett reported that the annual stewardship campaign exceeded its $2.2 million goal by about $14,000. Additionally, Bob Broeksmit stated that the Finance Committee will finalize a draft budget in the coming weeks and present it prior to the vestry’s June meeting. Citing a desire to address long-standing, unresolved issues, Ledlie proposed that the church fix the damaged plaster in the Nave. The work on the plaster would not be permanent or perfect, but it would last several years until a new, larger-scale capital campaign could be launched to raise money for a complete renovation of the Nave. Ledlie also proposed fixing the lighting system in the Nave, which failed during Holy Week, requiring the use of a circuit breaker to turn the lights on and off. The church will need to raise $125,000 for the repairs. The vestry approved moving forward with the proposed plan. Elizabeth Taylor reported that Joe Kolar and Shelby Tarkenton will co-chair the nominating committee. Ledlie reported that Tinuke Ige and Niels Nielsen have agreed to chair the new stewardship committee, a year-round committee that will consider high level stewardship strategy, education, and related issues. (The annual stewardship campaign committee, to be co-chaired by Paul Barringer, Lisa Whelan, and Chris Luckett, will continue to plan and execute the annual stewardship campaign.) The vestry approved the nomination of the Rev. Brooks Hundley to the nursery school board.
