At the vestry’s June 26, 2017 meeting: Treasurer Bob Broeksmit and COO Paul Barkett presented the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget and the vestry unanimously approved it. The budget is cash-flow positive, and for the first time in recent years, includes some funding for depreciation. It also includes funds for a full-time youth minister and a new junior accountant, increases the parish’s diocesan pledge in the amount requested by the bishop, and incorporates into the budget certain expenditures that had not been previously included. The vestry engaged in a discussion with Bishop Marianne Budde. Bishop Marianne and the vestry discussed the state of St. Columba’s, how God is at work within St. Columba’s, the need to continually think about changes in ministries and in the community, and generational shifts occurring throughout the diocese. Ledlie discussed the progress of the “vision team” that he convened to think about a developing a broader vision for the parish and he received feedback regarding the team’s initial work. The vestry received an update from a sub-group of the vestry that considered how to best articulate the vestry’s strategic priorities. The vestry discussed metaphors that could be helpful for expressing those priorities. Ledlie reported that the parish made some progress with respect to the plan to fix a portion of the plaster in the Church Nave (the four most damaged areas) and the failed lighting system. Ledlie noted that a wider fundraising effort would soon begin to fund the project. Annual Stewardship Campaign Committee co-chair Paul Barringer reported that the committee is seeking volunteers to conduct parishioner visits next Fall. Respectfully submitted, Charles Molluzzo, secretary of the vestry Vestry Minutes
