Embarrassed in theiropener in the District 7Btournament last week, theVermillion Grey Sox foughtback in the losers' bracketSunday, dominating Beresford,11-2, to move within one winof still earning a spot in nextweek's state "B" amateurtournament in Mitchell.

The Grey Sox were to playthe Akron Rebels onWednesday night with thewinner advancing to the statetournament.

Jumping out to a 7-0 leadwith two runs in the secondand five in the third, the GreySox cruised to their win overBeresford behind starter CodySchreiber and reliever TylerJohnson, who combined for 10strikeouts. Schreiber pitchedtill the seventh with Johnsonfinishing the game.

The Grey Sox increasedtheir lead to 10-1 with a three-run fifth inning. They had 19hits off three Beresford hurlers,including a 4-for-4performance from MikeMoran. He had a home runamong his four hits and drovein five runs. Reid Meierkortand Grant Lueders each hitsafely three times.

Michael Jensen had two hitsfor the Blues, who managed

only four other hits offSchreiber and Johnson.

Last Wednesday the GreySox were done in early by theirown mistakes, committingnine errors in the first twoinnings during which thevisiting Renner Oldtimersscored 14 runs – four in thefirst and 10 in the second. TheGrey Sox "won" the rest of thegame, 6-3, but that was smallconsolation.

Johnson pitched twoinnings for Vermillion. MitchSchwartz threw the next sixinnings, keeping Rennerscoreless until a single run inthe eighth. Moran pitched theninth.

The Grey Sox outhitRenner, 12-10, despite the 17-6final score. Lueders andMerritt Groh had three hitseach while Jason Rasmussen,Brooks LIttle, Tim Ross andMoran had two hits apiece.
