Dear Venue, I’m planning a visit to London and a trip to The O2 next month. I’d love to take some photographs of the building while I’m there – will this be possible? I know some venues have strict photography policies.

thanks,

mrs Periwinkle

Dear Mrs Periwinkle

Whilst you are visiting, you can use regular digital cameras to take pictures of the outer building, Entertainment Avenue and shows inside the arena – ones that can generally fit in your pocket are fine. However, we are unable to allow professional cameras or recording equipment into the building or into the arena. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thanks

The O2 Team

Hi there to all at The O2, I’m coming to a show at The O2 in December and am going to get to North Greenwich via the Thames Clippers boat service. I’m a little bit confused, though, about what boat service is available after a show.

thanks,

sarah, London.

Hi Sarah,

On event nights The O2 Express leaves North Greenwich pier 15 minutes after the show ends and calls directly at Canary Wharf, London Bridge and London Eye piers, so you’ll be back in central London in no time! Boats continue to leave the pier every 15 minutes after that, including stopping services calling at other Westbound piers on request. You can even enjoy a post-show drink on board. Have a great night!

Thanks

The O2 Team

Tell us about your experience at The O2 and you could win a two-course meal and bottle of wine at Zizzi Restaurant on any night you choose. Just visit The O2’s Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/theO2 and click the “I Was There” tab. Submit your review in no more than 300 words and we’ll select the most original and exciting experience. O2 and Gorillaz' unique collaboration earlier this year saw the creation of a 3D-augmented reality iPhone app to support the sale of Priority Tickets for O2 customers. The Escape to Plastic Beach app brought a virtual Gorillaz world to life when customers took a photo of an augmented reality code printed in various media.

Thanks to 45 combined points from new additions Martell Webster and Michael Beasley, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA Europe Live London at The O2 on 4 October.

Stars watching courtside, including Chris Moyles, James Corden, Cesc Fabregas and Ashley Cole, were treated to an evening of great NBA action, including a six-minute stint from Laker superstar Kobe Bryant, still on the comeback trail after knee surgery, during which the former MVP had a steal and assist to Lamar Odom for a thunderous dunk for the first two points of the game. The first half was tight, finishing 56-55 in favour of the Lakers. During the second half, chants of “Kobe” rained down from the stands, imploring the five-time NBA champion to play a few more minutes, but he was not able to do so. Undaunted, the sell-out crowd roared as the young Timberwolves put together an explosive third quarter in his absence to take a commanding lead and eventually defeat the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers 111-92.

If you missed NBA Europe Live, then become a part of NBA history when the New Jersey Nets take on the Toronto Raptors in the league's first ever regular-season game to be held in Europe in March next year.

When Simply Red take to The O2 stage for their farewell tour on 8 December, Zizzi restaurant in Entertainment Avenue will be fundraising throughout the night for the Joshua Orphan and Community Care in Malawi.

Managers and chefs have volunteered to work the shift for free, with Zizzi agreeing that all money that would have been spent on labour on the night instead being donated to the charity. All tips on the night will also be donated.

Zizzi Operations Manager Ruairidh Kerr said, “The Joshua Orphan and Community Care is a small Malawi-based charity, established in 1998. They support community-driven sustainable development projects to assist the local orphans and vulnerable children. It’s a well-run charity where overheads are very low, so the money raised goes directly to help the local community.”

Ruairidh will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for the charity in February. "You can pop over to the restaurant for dinner and see the guys at work. If you want to avoid the queues, come after 8pm!”

JLS, or Jack The Lad Swing, to use their unabbreviated moniker, have rocketed to fame in just two short years with a string of awards, sell-out concerts and a quadruple platinum album to their name. Not bad for runners up on a reality TV show! Oliver Balcazar chats with four of the nicest lads in pop to find out what’s in store for their first ever arena tour...

Oristé: We’ve been writing a lot, from the first album all the way through to the second album, we’ve written 13 out of 14 tracks, apart from The Club Is Alive. The creative process for us is one of the most fun and exciting times – songs are a great outlet, to have the opportunity to get things off your chest like that. We wrote about 60 songs, which is about

five albums’ worth, so it was very hard to select what we wanted, but once we got a feel of the direction we wanted to take it, we got our 14 songs and we’re really, really excited.

How did you whittle them down?Oristé: We wanted to give a very complete sound; for

the content to be right. This album is a lot more diverse than the last one. If you like your house music, your pop music, your R&B music, there’s something on this album

for everybody and with it I hope that we’ll attract more music listeners from across the board.

What inspired you during the writing of your album; were you listening to anything in particular?

JB: We draw our inspiration from all sorts of places, but that’s the beauty of working with all sorts of producers because they all come up with different styles and have different musical minds.

Oristé: Lyrically, it’s all old relationships, former girlfriends, family, life experiences, even TV programmes and movies…

What sort of TV shows? Neighbours?JB: Ha ha ha ha…no. We had a song called We

Rock The Night, right? And we kind of had an Entourage vibe, us driving down Sunset [Boulevard], going out to clubs and stuff like that. We name check The Mondrian, The Sky Bar, The W…

Marvin: We’re not sure that will ever get released though…

Aston: Not that we know what we’re talking about, of course! Ha ha ha.

What does Outta This World mean?Marvin: The actual song itself is about a girl who

is out of this world. She could be from another planet, she could be from the sun, she could be from somewhere other than earth, you know?

JB: I’m laughing ‘cause I wish she was here so you could meet her, but the sentiment is right.

Marvin: The title of the album means something different – that’s Outta This World as in, where did we get this album from? You know? Did we pull it straight from Mars? So it has two different meanings – we didn’t name the album after an individual girl!

From starting on The X Factor in 2008, the last two years must have been a crash course in the music industry?

Aston: The whole of X Factor was the biggest learning experience; it really is like a boot camp over a six-month period. It’s very intense!

JB: I think we saw X Factor from the underdog perspective though. After it finished, we had a lot more time to set the album up how we wanted to. Marvin used to be in a group before and he know the ropes. A lot of it is common sense – the music industry

isn’t rocket science! There are ins and outs that you learn everyday, right up until the day you retire.

Marvin: For me, you learn so quickly and so fast from the music industry and you have to grasp as much knowledge as you can, hold it, bottle it up and just carry it through; how ruthless it can be and how much hard work it is, but the pluses make it all worth it. The X Factor is a fast track to everything, like an apprenticeship – you learn two years of industry in six months. The amount of stuff you go through is mind-blowing, even more so now that two years later.

Do you ever worry about your credibility because you came from a reality TV show?

JB: If the public felt we weren’t authentic they wouldn’t have bought our singles. You can’t fool people these days. People like Dame Judi Dench wouldn’t be supporting us and Taio Cruz wouldn’t be wanting to work with us. These are artists who have come through the traditional way, and if they didn’t think we were credible they wouldn’t show us any love.

If you could put together a boy band supergroup, who would be in it and why?

2

Oristé: Erm, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince…

Aston: Sammy Davis Junior and Frank Sinatra…Marvin: Oh, Elvis can be in it as well…JB: Yeah, Elvis can be in it. Six pieces…do you need

to ask why? Ha ha ha.

What can fans expect from your four shows at The O2?

Aston: Expect the unexpected. This show is going to floor everyone. The production especially has evolved so much since our performances on the X Factor Tour. There’s stunts, massive special effects. Look out for the fire!

Oristé: It’s taking JLS to a whole new level. It’s a lot more theatrical. Our dancing has really improved since we were trained by Brian Friedman on the X Factor, and there’s new choreography that we’ve been rehearsing for months.

Marvin: Coming from Greenwich, these shows are extra-special for me obviously. All my family will be coming down, so The O2 so will really be incredible for us. When the JLS logo shines on the big screens outside, that’s when I know we’ve made it big! n

Taylor Swift’s Speak Now World Tour is one of the most anticipated live music experiences of 2011. The songstress’ live shows are renowned for their incredible high-energy theatrical presentation of graphics, sets and

visual elements, all designed by Taylor herself. During each show, she performs hit after hit from her three albums including the chart-topping Love Story, You Belong With Me, Fifteen, and Mine.

Taylor’s previous Fearless Tour in 2009/10 sold out arenas and stadiums in 88 cities across five countries and spanned four continents. “I’m so excited to go back out on tour again in 2011!” says the 20-old. “The Fearless Tour was so much fun and even more unforgettable than I ever imagined, and I can’t wait to get back out and play my new music from Speak Now! The fans have been so amazing, and I’m thrilled to play in new cities around the world and meet even more of my fans in 2011!”

The Grammy-winning star has been involved in the music industry since she was 12 years old. “I would come out of Disney movies when I was four, and my parents used to get freaked out because I’d be singing

the entire soundtrack of the movie after hearing it once. I retained music more than anything else.”

At nine she began theatre performances and by ten she was auditioning for Broadway shows. Then she started singing country music at festivals, fairs and karaoke contests. Her parents soon realised that her passion for music was getting serious. “All the girls at school were going to sleepovers and breaking into their parents’ liquor cabinets at the weekend, and all I wanted to do was go to festivals and sing karaoke music.”

Now a four-time Grammy winner and the top-selling digital artist in music history, Taylor’s had the number 1 best-selling album in any genre of music in 2009. Love Story was the sixth-highest selling digital single worldwide last year, and she also became the youngest artist in history to win the music industry’s highest honour, the Grammy for Album of the Year.

Taylor writes all of her own songs and has record sales now in excess of 13 million albums and 25 million song downloads. Her performance at The O2 is set to be an extravagant visual spectacle that will delight her thousands of UK fans. n

massive hit presenting the show and leading the audience in the singing of old favourites during last year’s concert. “There’s always a really special feeling around Christmas time and so I’m excited to be part of this again”, said Myleene. “The atmosphere was electric and I know the Christmas spirit will be well and truly alive and kicking this year.”

As announced in June, Raymond Gubbay, the classical spectacular impresario, will return to The O2 with a second awe-inspiring Christmas Spectacular. Expect a rousing night of carols, traditional tunes and some cracking Christmas number ones!

Anthony Inglis will conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in this Christmas extravaganza, which will

“I am delighted to be returning to The O2 with my Christmas Spectacular,” said Gubbay. “Last year proved that an audience of 20,000 certainly creates an incredible atmosphere in which to celebrate Christmas – I am sure this year will be even more enchanting and impressive.”

David Campbell, Chief Executive of AEG Europe, said, “Raymond Gubbay is a tour de force and I am thrilled he will be bringing his Christmas production back to The O2. The O2 has ventured into the classical sphere before with great success, and I know visitors will flock to see what is sure to be an unforgettable Christmas Spectacular.” n

It’s little wonder that 100,000 tickets for Usher’s UK dates were sold on the first day of release after his six-year hiatus from touring the globe. Phenomenal demand from thousands of UK fans meant extra dates had to be added to his OMG Tour, totalling

four incredible nights at The O2 in February. The Tennessee-born, Atlanta-raised performer,

songwriter, producer, dancer, and actor started his multi-faceted career at the age of 13 and has achieved what few other contemporary entertainers have ever accomplished. Over the span of his 14-year career, he’s sold close to 26 million albums worldwide, picking up five Grammys along the way.

It’s hard to believe Usher’s début album was released way back in 1994 following his first single, Think Of You. Most people will remember his second album, My Way, thanks to the sexy grooves of R&B classic You

Make Me Wanna. This was followed by 8701 in 2001, featuring hits U Remind Me and U Don’t Have To Call. But it was Usher’s unique emotional intensity and exceptional musicality, which combined on his 2004 Confessions album that truly cemented his status as the new king of R&B, selling more than 1 million copies in the first week of release. It went on to be the most successful album of 2004, selling more than 10 million copies in the US and almost 20 million copies worldwide. Confessions saw the release of chart topping hits Burn, and club anthem, Yeah.

A ground-breaking performer, Usher is also keen to develop his philanthropic side. His foundation New Look was founded in 1999 and aims to help those in disadvantaged communities to use their unique talents. “By opening this door to service more young people, we’ll see they do have the power to create

2011 sees the return of multi-platinum R&B superstar Usher to the UK stage for his only London dates at The O2, and it’s been a long wait for the US heartthrob’s adoring fans, says Hayley Thorpe

became a part-owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team, where he has played an important role in building the team’s entertainment initiative. He also has a number of fragrances for men and women through a partnership with Elizabeth Arden.

This year Usher returned to his original medium with his monumental seventh album Raymond Vs Raymond and deluxe edition Versus, which went into the US chart at number 1. Usher says “there’s a perception of what life might be like for someone in my position and that perception is based on the success I’ve been granted. On the other side of that is the reality, the emotions, loves and real life experiences. Life is about balance, and I find in the end that both sides come together to create a simple yet complicated individual who strives in his deeds and aspirations to make a better world along the way.”

The first two tracks from the album have both been top ten hits, with DJ Got Us Falling In Love featuring Pitbull charting at number 9 in the UK, and OMG hitting the number 1 spot. The album has been described as a natural follow-up to Confessions, with Usher addressing various topics reflecting the dichotomies of life. Usher’s collaborations on the album include Jay-Z, Justin Bieber and Enrique Iglesias.

Featuring the original line-up of Bryan Ferry, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson, Roxy Music’s For Your Pleasure tour coincides with the 40th anniversary of this hugely influential band.

Roxy Music landed in 1971 to part bewilderment and part rapture– an intoxicating blend of fashion, romance, nostalgia and futurism with songs that were almost cinematic, set to soundscapes that stunned and perplexed. Hits like Avalon, Do The Strand, Virginia Plain, Love Is the Drug and More Than This have all become classics and sound as vital as ever some four decades on.

The band were chosen by long-time fan Jonathan Ross to be his final music guest on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross in July, and also played a series of European Festivals this summer, including the UK’s Lovebox and Bestival.

“It’s good to play to a mixture of people of different

age groups, fans of other bands, and all that kind of thing, so we can mix it up a bit,” said singer Bryan Ferry. “But we’ll play to our own audience in February – we’ve got a lot of music to choose from to play.”

Picking up an Icon Q Music Award, Bryan Ferry joked that he won the title because he has been around for such a long time and said that, at 65, he’s working harder than ever. Famed for always having a beautiful woman on his arm, it was no surprise that he was joined by Kate Moss and his girlfriend Amanda Sheppard at the launch of his new album Olympia last week.

The glam trendsetters quickly became famous in the early 70s for their outrageous costumes and quirky hits, scoring a UK number one hit with a cover of John Lennon’s Jealous Guy in 1981. Roxy Music’s comeback performance at The O2 will unite both long-time fans as well as younger admirers of the art rock kings. n

New at the O2

For the first time in DC Comic’s history, see Batman as you’ve never seen him before in an all-new, live action arena adventure that’s set to take the world by storm. Coming to The O2 from 24 August to 4 September,

Batman Live is a multimillion-pound stage production of unprecedented scale and a must-see for families and Batman fans everywhere.

Written exclusively by two of the comic book world’s most highly regarded writers, the show is a theatrical extravaganza of thrilling stunts, acrobatic acts and illusions. A brand new storyline will see the dynamic duo Batman and Robin pitted against classic villains including The Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and The Riddler. With stunts, pyrotechnics, illusions and video screen sequences, the show will take place in several settings from the famed DC Comics stories, including Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Batcave and Arkham Asylum.

“When a character has as wide an audience and as rich a history as Batman, it’s truly exciting to see him introduced into an all-new storytelling medium,” says Jim Lee, co-publisher at DC Comics. “Batman Live will bring a completely new experience to fans of the character – it’s great to be able to give them something they haven’t seen before.”

However, Nick Grace of Water Lane Productions, the company behind the new show, is quick to dismiss fears that Batman Live will be in a similar vein to the kitsch TV series of the 1960s. “This is not a musical, but a high-quality live show with a thrilling Batman story, filled with action, that will appeal to adults, teenagers and families.”

“Batman is more than a comic book character, he’s a cultural phenomenon and we are proud to have this opportunity to be involved with one of the most popular DC superheroes in the world today.”

The show will be lighter in tone and more family-friendly than the films directed by Christopher Nolan, the most recent of which, 2008’s The Dark Knight, was the most successful superhero film ever. Executive producer Nick Grace, who conceived the show and is collaborating with Warner Brothers and DC Comics to stage it, said, “It’s very fast-moving and visually exciting. Every picture will tell you a story.”

“There’s very little dialogue. It’s the perfect environment for a Batman live show. We will give people a spectacular event.” But unlike in the films, there will be no Christian Bale or George Clooney behind the Batman mask. Nick says, “The star of the show is Batman”. Gaucho International Arena Polo takes to the world stage with unique one-off test matches at The O2

Gaucho International Polo will be the ultimate celebration of polo and its growing popularity in the UK. A festival atmosphere will be generated by the multitude of world-class entertainment

as well as corporate hospitality, live music, fashion shows, food and drink stalls and a retail village all under The O2’s iconic roof. More than 10,000 people will be cheering on a series of polo matches and a host of equestrian events throughout the evening.

Arena Polo is a form of polo played on a reduced size pitch with only three people per side rather than the usual four. The result is a fast, frenetic and action-packed game that is extremely spectator-friendly, played in an intimate and exciting atmosphere where the crowd can see, hear and even smell all the action of this highly physical sport.

Easy RidER

Gaucho International Polo really will be a showcase of all the best things that polo has to offer, and The O2 is the ideal setting for this thrilling tournament. A Thursday evening has been chosen for the event, making it the perfect destination for corporate hospitality at The O2’s Gaucho Restaurant and Sky Backstage Bar, as well as providing a truly special evening out for people after work. The range and quality of the entertainment also make this a great after-school event for families.

The event starts at 2pm with corporate hospitality provided by Gaucho. The action kicks off at 5pm with a top-class exhibition match. Following that, there will be an international game between Scotland and South Africa (6.15pm). Next up is a short but highly entertaining celebrity polo match at 7.30pm, and the day then culminates with the Churchill Cup game

between EFG’s England and their old adversary, Camino Real’s Argentina, with the prize-giving at 8.45pm.

No polo tournament is complete without a players’ after-party, and for this tournament you won’t need to go far. An exclusive 2,500-capacity clubs within The O2 is where the players will be found after the tournament, as they host an after-party suited to the grandeur of such a tournament.

“Polo is growing so quickly now and the introduction of such a great tournament to the UK during the winter off-season is a welcome addition”, says Gaucho Polo International and Ralph Lauren Ambassador, Nacho Figueras. “Arena polo is such an exciting form of the game and it will be truly special to play it at such an iconic venue in front of so many supporters.”

The HPA Chairman of the Arena Committee and Chairman of the International Arena Committee, captain Michael Amoore said, “The Gaucho International at The O2 will be the culmination of an incredible arena season. I’ve spent a number of weeks discussing the squads with my relevant counterparts and am pleased to have selected an England squad that will rival a strong Argentine team. Like many others in the polo community, I cannot wait to see how The O2 transforms into the host venue for the world’s first internationals in an indoor polo arena.”

Representing Team Argentina alongside captain Nacho Figueras and Adolfo Casabal, we spoke to Oscar Machini, who’ll be battling for the Bryan Morrison Trophy in a gladiatorial grudge match between Argentina and England.

Polo seems to be having a resurgence of interest lately in London – do you agree? Why is it becoming so popular?

Polo has definitely become more popular over the last few years. Thanks to events like The Gaucho International, polo has become more accessible to the general public and has attracted a new audience to this ancient sport. I would encourage anyone who has

Are you looking forward to competing at The O2?I’m really looking forward to playing at The O2, as

this will be the first time arena polo has ever been played here. I’m hoping that, with more than 10,000 people coming to the event, The O2 will be full of cheering supporters in a truly festival atmosphere.

Are you expecting lots of Argentinians in the Gaucho Polo audience at The O2, or will it attract people from all nationalities?

I’m hoping the Gaucho International Polo will attract lots of Argentines living over in the UK as we have some of the country’s finest players representing Argentina. However, I am also hoping the event will attract a wider audience of people who would not necessarily have watched polo before. n

New Jersey Nets guard Devin Harris will be one of the main attractions when his side play the Toronto Raptors in two NBA games in London next March. The double-header at The O2 will be the first

time regular season NBA games have ever been played in Europe. But Harris believes the concept will be both popular and here to stay, like NFL games in the UK.

“Every pre-season we send out six or eight teams to different countries to play abroad like Premier League teams do”, said Harris. “We will continue to do so, but I see us doing more competitive regular season games and perhaps the Premier League will do it in the US too!”

“It could be like the NFL – they come back every year with different teams to get the country used to the sport, and build the fan base and globalise the game as much as possible.”

“That is the direction we are going in with basketball as well. It is so different watching on TV

than it is in person. You get more excited being able to see it up close and in person, and it would probably work with the Premier League. I would definitely go to watch English top-flight football if a game was ever played in America.”

The 27-year-old ace from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is looking forward to playing a meaningful match in front of passionate British fans next year. Named in the 2009 All-Star squad, Harris has already played at The O2 in a pre-season friendly against the Miami Heat in October 2008.

This season, the Nets have seen some changes under new owner, Mikhail Prokhorov. He has brought in coach Avery Johnson, who guided his old team the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2006. The team have also added three new faces to the roster, including point guard Jordan Farmar, who joined from the LA Lakers, where he won successive NBA titles in 2009 and 2010. n

Launching a topical satire programme is a notoriously hard thing to get right, yet Russell Howard’s Good News bucked the TV trend by creating an instant hit. In fact, his show is the best performing studio-based entertainment

show BBC Three has ever launched, and is now in its third series.

An instant hit with his innate ability to improvise on any subject, Russell first hit the spotlight when he was commissioned by BBC Radio 1 to write and perform on the comedy series, The Milk Run. Now the Bristol comedian is known to millions as a panelist on BBC Two’s Mock The Week. As an award-winning stand-up comedian, he makes the stage his own personal playground and thrives on spontaneous chats with his audience, leading them down a never-ending series of unstoppably comical journeys.

Good News neatly mixes Howard’s stand-up routines with funny clips from the internet, quick-fire sketches and studio games to present a compelling

show that treats its audience with more intelligence than many of BBC Three’s previous satire attempts. Producing so much new comedy material week in, week out is always draining for both the star and writers, but the comic and the production team have managed to keep the enthusiasm and energy going.

Onstage Russell has built a name as one of the country’s most exciting and popular comedians. His sell-out tours, Adventures (2007/8), Dingledodies (2008/9) and Big Rooms and Belly Laughs (2009) have played to hundreds of thousands of people. Dingledodies sold in excess of 125,000 tickets, including three sell-out shows.

In 2011 Russell will embark on his largest tour to date, Right Here, Right Now, which comes to The O2 in February. Originally scheduled for one date, phenomenal demand led to a second date being added. With brand new material and hilarious insights, make sure you get your ticket for one of the brightest comedy talents around! n

With more than 1 million tickets sold over the past three years, the hugely popular Strictly Come Dancing Live tour returns in 2011 for its fourth consecutive year,

waltzing into The O2 for four January performances. This breathtaking show provides an unmissable

opportunity to see your favourite celebrities and professional dancers competing for the judges’ acclaim. Audience members also have their say on which pair takes home the coveted glitter ball trophy, as the audience votes are added to the judges’ scores to select the winner at the end of each show.

The eighth series of the television phenomenon is currently being broadcast on BBC1 and is attracting more than 9 million viewers a week. Previous series have all been huge ratings successes, with audiences for the series’ finales reaching more than 11 million. The television format, also known as Dancing With The Stars in the USA, entered the Guinness Book of World Records last year as the world’s most successful reality television show and has been sold by BBC Worldwide to more than 35 international broadcasters.

Among the stars confirmed for the live tour are some of the contestants doing battle in the current series, including Patsy Kensit, Pamela Stephenson, Tina O’Brien and Kara Tointon. Countryfile presenter, hearthrob and series favourite Matt Baker will also star in the live show.

Kara said, “I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the public support I’ve received. Being on Strictly has been a fantastic experience, and I just want to keep dancing

for as long as possible, which is why I’ve signed up to do a live tour. I’m really looking forward to meeting all the fans and learning some new routines.”

The live show will be hosted by Zoe Ball, who came third in the TV series in 2005, and she’ll have the unenviable task of keeping the nation’s favourite judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel-Horwood and Bruno Tonioli in order! Revel-Horwood will also have responsibility for the show’s glamorous look and feel, as he takes the role of director for the first time.

Hollywood actor Jimi Mistry has been added to the star-studded line-up, joining Olympic athlete and series runner-up in 2005, Colin Jackson and last year’s runner-up, actor Ricky Whittle. “Although gutted to have left the show, I am very much looking forward to starting Strictly Come Dancing Live” said Jimmy. “It will be great to learn some new routines, and maybe even add in a few of my own moves!”

Patsy Kensit, a contestant in this year’s series, said “I love everything about Strictly; the dancing, the beautiful outfits, the live music, and the tour is going to be absolutely amazing – I’m so glad to be joining it. It’s going to be incredible performing each night in front of arena-sized audiences – hopefully I won’t get too nervous! I’ve been working so hard on my dancing during the TV series, so hopefully it will pay off on tour!”

Set to be the biggest and best live tour to date, Strictly Come Dancing Live brings the excitement of the TV show competition to The O2 stage for a stunning live show. n

Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado hit the spotlight in 2000 with the release of her début album Whoa Nelly!, featuring Grammy-winning single I’m Like A Bird. Since then, she’s sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Best Of unites songs from her four studio albums with three new tracks. First single, Night Is Young, was co-written by Furtado with Salaam Remi and Staybent Krunk-A-Delic, with the latter pair producing the track. Another new song, Girlfriend, is also a collaboration with Remi, while she co-wrote the final new track, Stars, with Lester Mendez. Furtado has notched up nine UK top ten hits in a decade, with Maneater, Promiscuous and her James Morrison duet Broken Strings, all included in this formidable hit-list.

Anyone who attended a deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) show this year would have experienced electrifying live renderings of material from his third album. this eagerly awaited collection features tracks Cthulhu Sleeps, Some Chords and the atmospheric Raise Your Weapon, featuring Picture book singer Greta Svabo bech. Also included is the deadmau5 vs. Wolfgang Gartner collaboration, Animal Rights.

Ciara’s fourth album sees a return to the R&b basics of her 2004 début Goodies. Seductive lead single Ride features Ludacris and was co-written by the two of them along with tricky Stewart and the-Dream. Ciara says, “the album is about our basic wants and desires. but I have to say, Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct was smart, a little shady, and she definitely had a sexy gangsta thing going on”.

21 is the follow-up to Adele’s acclaimed 2008 debut 19. “It’s different from 19 – it’s about the same things but in a different light” says the Grammy winner. “I deal with things differently now. I’m more patient, more honest, more forgiving and more aware of my own flaws, habits and principles – something that comes with age, I think”. the album was largely produced by Red Hot Chilli Peppers collaborator Rick Rubin.

When it comes to sequels, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II has more in common with Matrix Reloaded rather than The Empire Strikes Back: it’s a huge disappointment.

Set many months after the first, players take control of the all-powerful, force-wielding Starkiller, the secret apprentice of Darth Vader. Having been betrayed and killed by Vader in the first game, Starkiller (a clone) sets out on a journey in search for his love Juno Eclipse, and to find out the truth about his existence.

The game is extremely short, clocking in at the bare minimum of five hours, with the story quickly moving from one point to the next with no in-depth development. The voice acting is still great, however, and the characters themselves feel organic. The combat is pretty much the same, but this time players will wield dual lightsabers and a new force power or two.

The Force Unleashed II feels more like expanded content for the first, rather than a fully planned sequel. It seems like LucasArts wanted to cash in on a second game, rather than continue a strong storyline and see what they could do with the force.

This month Ryan Cope kick-starts a revolution in Fable III and journeys to find true love in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

Star WarS: the Force UnleaShed II

GAMES zone

The land of Albion is under the rule of the ruthless tyrant, King Logan. The player takes on the role of his younger sibling who, dissatisfied with Logan’s reign, gathers the people together in a revolution.

The game is split into two parts; the first three quarters sees the player raising an army, while the last segment focuses on the problems of ruling a kingdom (yes, you succeed in overthrowing your brother and become King or Queen – it’s no surprise). The rise of the revolution part has players doing quests and making promises to different leaders in order to gain their support, while in the ruling section players must decide to keep or break the oaths they made. Morality has a large role and there will be plenty of decisions that will have players stopping and thinking about what to do.

With some wonderful voice acting from the likes of John Cleese, an epic and well-scripted story, entertaining characters and places, fresh and innovative customisation, Fable III is a perfect game for newcomers to the RPG genre as well as fans of the franchise. This is by far the best in the series.

Acclaimed film maker Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) directs an international cast in this sci-fi action thriller that travels around the globe and into the world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the best there is at extraction: stealing valuable secrets inside the subconscious during the mind’s vulnerable dream state. His skill has made him a coveted player in industrial espionage, but also has made him a fugitive and cost him dearly. Now he can get a second chance if he can do the impossible: inception, planting an idea rather than stealing one. If they succeed, Cobb and his team could pull off the perfect crime. But no planning or expertise can prepare them for a dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move.

127 Hours This shocking yet inspirational story is set in May 2003, when hiker Aron Ralston (James Franco) is trapped in an isolated canyon after a fallen boulder crushes his arm while he is hiking in Utah. ith over £100,000 in prizes and the chance to play at The 02 in London, Live and Unsigned is set to attract thousands of unsigned musicians when auditions

across the UK begin in January. And the National competition has just announced another amazing main prize for the winner comprising of a world tour across four continents!

Competing acts will have the chance to play at a leading music venue in Dublin as well as playing at Tour Music Fest in Rome’s Piper Club where artists like David Bowie, the Beatles and Pink Floyd have all performed. I Rock, Asia’s biggest Rock festival, will be awarding an act with a slot on their main stage and entrants will also have the opportunity to play in Australia at The National Theatre, Melbourne and perform in the US – a once in a lifetime opportunity for any aspiring musician.

Live and Unsigned is the UK’s biggest unsigned music competition for original artists and it’s open to all genres. So whether you're into Pop, RnB, Punk, Indie, Alternative, Rock or Acoustic, the competition has it all. Each year the competition prize pool gets bigger and better as acts take to the stage and battle it out for equipment, festival slots, clothing, studio time and master classes. Other prizes up for grabs include a UK tour with up to 100 dates, a selection of Marshall amps, extensive coverage on MUZU TV

and You Tube and a recording contract with Future Music, with up to £50,000 investment!

All acts in the competition are auditioned live which is what makes Live and Unsigned so unique, there are no demos or submissions. Those who make it through the audition stage will get to perform to industry judges, A&R associates and celebrity guests in some of the UK's most prestigious venues. And those who make it to the Grand Final will get to share the stage with some of the UK's best musicians at the Live and Unsigned Festival at The 02 in London!

The competition's aim is to find potential recording artists. Over 10,000 acts entered the competition last year and the Grand Final saw the cream of the UK's unsigned talent showcase their music in front of thousands of audience members and the judging panel which included Slade's legendary front man Noddy Holder, Radio 1's Annie Nightingale, Kerrang's Alex Baker and RnB star Shola Ama.

Auditions begin again in January 2011. Acts are now being urged to enter as places are in high demand and auditions are limited for what will be a great platform for any act or band to showcase their music. For information on how to secure your live audition for 2011 go to www.LiveandUnsigned.uk.com and register today.
