INSIDE THIS ISSUE: RAMROD Lends Helping Hand at Houston International Zoo

The Houston Zoo is a 55-acre zoological park located within Hermann Park in Houston,

Texas. It recently built a 7,000 square foot barn and a new exhibit for their Asian elephants.

The new facility was built with the intention of adding to the zoo's elephant herd. There was

just one problem; how would zoo officials clean the pens without scaring all the animals??

Enter the RAMROD!

Daryl Hoffman, from the Houston Zoo reports that their team loves their new Ramrod

1150 Taskmaster machine and that they would have trouble accomplishing their daily

tasks without it. “The members of the Keeper Staff use the Ramrod daily for cleaning the

inside of the elephant and exhibit areas. It is often used to get into the moated areas to

remove eroding soil.

Zoo officials use the RAMROD

to load and transport sand

and other substrate materials.

With its maneuverability the

RAMROD can be used any-

where a traditional wheel bar-

row is used, but with 10 times

the power and versatility. “We

use the Ramrod to transport

“Working residential city jobs can be tough, the

RAMROD machines give me room to

maneuver and look for obstacles”

RAMROD - The Most Reliable Worker on Your Crew With so many business opportunities for landscapers/general contractors,

some RAMROD die-hards have multiple RAMROD Mini Skids to get the job

done. Rick Thomson, a landscaper and contractor from McGrath, Alberta

relies on this RAMROD’S for his everyday jobs.

FUN FACT: Did you know RAMROD Machines are sold all over world and even used in diamond mines?

Photos submitted by Thomson family

For many years Rick has had the opportunity to work with many contrac-

tors, he often tells fellow landscapers that the RAMROD machines are nec-

essary for day-to-day work. “I often tell contractors that having one ma-

chine of each model is essential, the 900 wheel model won’t damage any

turf and I depend on the 1150 for all heavy duty jobs, I really like the agil-

ity of both machines”.

Rick does a variety of landscaping jobs, some of which are residential and

can be very challenging. “Working residential city jobs can be tough, the

RAMROD machines gives me room to manoeuvre as well as have a 360

degree view around me to look for any obstacles”. All RAMROD machines

are compact which gives Rick confidence in eliminating any problems run-

ning into walls, siding, fences or any other obstacles that could be a problem

while moving around. “I feel safe on the machine, I am confident that I won’t

run into anything,” said Rick.

Proud owner of Model 900 Gas Wheel Unit and an 1150 Model Diesel Track

Unit, Rick has the right amount of variability for a landscaper. “I use the 900

Model for transferring material and product on hard surfaces as well as

hobby raking, whereas with the 1150 I use it for the heavy duty work,” said

Rick. Rick’s 1150 Model along with over 20 RAMROD attachments allows

him to do everything from trenching, digging, backhoeing and stump

grinding.

Rick is currently in the process of digging up a basement in an older home.

He uses the 1150 machine to fulfill all the necessary needs for that job,

although some people didn’t feel it could complete the tasks. “There have

been many times when I have shown up for a job and I see a look of

confusion on customer’s faces thinking what am I going to accomplish

with this ‘toy’, but by the end of the job people are amazed at what the

RAMROD’S can do. I am always called back for future landscaping needs!”

Rick can often be found grooming winter roads with his RAMROD after a heavy snowfall.

further distances.

The 48” Two Stage Snow Blower is a

self-propelled 15 HP engine driven unit

Life is a Highway

Do you have an application where minimum disturbance of

the working surface is paramount. RAMROD may have the

answer. Used by contractors for laying rock, bricks and in-

ter-locking ‘paving stones’ , RAMROD offers a Swivel Wheel

package on selected 4WD Models to create a ‘turning’ vs.

‘skidding’ action to minimize surface disturbance.

The Multi-Purpose RAMROD Stump Grinder

Responding to a growing demand from parks and recrea-

tion crews, municipalities and property maintenance spe-

cialists, RAMROD offers a compact Hydraulic STUMP

GRINDER for super power models.

The RAMROD Stump Grinder is equipped with a double

acting hydraulic sweep action that angles 30 degrees ei-

ther way and allows the operator to tackle the largest of

stumps. It quick attaches to the RAMROD Accessory Plate

and requires 9 to 15 GPM hydraulic flow with maximum

pressure of 3000 psi. The direct drive of the cutting wheel

is driven by a heavy duty hydraulic motor. There are no

belts, gears or pulleys to maintain.

The RAMROD Stump Grinder has a total of 15 cutting teeth

with replacement bolt on teeth available as needed. Weigh-

ing 190 pounds, the unit is equipped with a special debris

guard that collects the wood chips safely in a convenient

pile around the stump. For more information visit the

RAMROD website at www.ramrodequip.com

Now You See It…. Now You Don’t!

With the wear and tear of our highways and roads it

seems ‘potholes’ were invented with the first automo-

bile.

Speaking with highway road repair news, RR’s are chang-

ing their approach. RAMROD base models are equipped

with buckets and specialized asphalt hopper/leveller

combination tools. Technicians can easily unload and fill

large cracks and holes ’in one pass’ thereby eliminating

the need for two to three workers working with a shovel

and wheel barrow. Not only are potholes filled at 10

times the speed, highway departments can profit from

fewer compensation claims, lower worker fatigue,

quicker job completion times and big financial savings.

Safety is another major concern. Technicians report

feeling safer working in a semi-enclosed RAMROD Mini

Skid Loader when standing alone near oncoming high-

way or city traffic.

Does it stop here? Absolutely not! With the versatility of

RAMROD, public works crews can expand projects to

include tree planting, stump grinding, landscaping, irri-

gation, cable installation, fence building, snow removal

and countless other applications.
